Synopsis

The story of Army of Two takes place across 16 years, centering on Elliott Salem and Tyson Rios, two battle-hardened former Army Rangers that join the private sector as mercenaries for hire. Following their former commander Dalton to Security and Strategy Corporation, or SSC, Salem and Rios are dispatched across the globe to "take care of problems" in warzones while raking in large sums of cash. However, as time goes by, both Salem and Rios start to notice that a number of leaks and secrets seem to coincide with their missions as well as a bill in Congress to fully privatize the military. Trying to get their heads around what's going on, Salem and Rios fight their way through battlefields in a tale of betrayal, conspiracy and revenge.

Gameplay

To start off making this gameplay more unique, Army of Two is shot in 3rd person. This makes it so you can see the whole view of your character. Due to this, one of the huge parts of this game is customization. There are 3 types of amour choices, basic, medium, and heavy. You unlock each armor throughout the campaign. You character also wears a mask, which you have a variety of choosing. It doesn't end there though. You can also customize your gun. You have a choice of upgrades for each part of the gun(ammo, aim, power etc) and you can even "pimp" it out(make it gold). This isn't without cost though. You will need money, and the way you do that is by completing a variety of missions given to you. This missions send you into different parts of the countries, in which you will do various task with your teammate. While this game is built for co-op, you can play alone. You will still have a teammate however, it will just be the AI. You will need this extra player/AI because the game does require teamwork. There are certain moves(Life up, healing, back to back and tons more) in which you and yer parent work together.

Graphics
The graphics in this game are actually pretty good. Then environment is used very well in order to enhance the graphics such as,broken buildings, use of lighting, and surroundings cover objects. The graphics help give a realistic feel to the game, which is a huge part of why this game is so great.

Weapons

You have 3 different slots for weapons. Primary, secondary, and special. You are allowed one weapon for each slot. In order to pick up ammo, you need to walk over dead bodies and hope they dropped some ammo. You can upgrade certain weapons with special upgrades(barrel, stock, cartridge and more) and each upgrade has a tier. Tier 1,2,3 and you need to buy the lower one in order to unlock the higher one. You type of guns under primary are Assault rifle, Machine Gun, Grenade launchers, and Shotguns. Secondary weapons are pistols and sub machine guns. Specials are snipers and launchers. There are over 20 different weapons in this game across all gun slots.

Online multiplayer

While this game did have a versus mode, it was shut down on August 11, 2011 due to the lack of players it had. It had 3 types of modes, in which two teams of 2 would pit against each other in combat.

Veteran Map Pack DLC

Released in May 29th 2008, this dlc including a new co-op mission, and an expanded map for online versus mode. It also allowed for an alternative ending from the games original ending. It is currently free to download.

Sequel & Fun facts

The game does have a sequel called The 40th Day at the start of 2010.
The game also has a novel out, called Army of Two: Dirty Money.
It has also had it's right bought for a movie to be made, but no release has been set on the movie.

Overall Opinion:
8.5/10

I think this is a truly great game. It's a great storyline filled with surprises, thrills, and betrayal. It's fast paced gameplay keeps you hooked. The game is so much fun playing with a friend. It truly gives the feel of you 2 being a contractor. You have to work together with your friend, and that adds a ton of fun and realism to the game. even though the game no longer has a versus mode, I suggest picking it up if you are into co-op games. Even if you play alone, this game can still be tons of fun. This is one of the best army campaigns I have ever played, and I recommended playing it.
