Synopsis (Wikipedia)

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock retains the basic gameplay from previous games in the Guitar Hero series, where the player uses a guitar-shaped controller to simulate the playing of lead, bass, and rhythm guitar parts in rock songs by playing in time to scrolling notes on-screen. The game, in addition to existing single-player Career modes, includes a new Co-Op Career mode and competitive challenges that pit the player against in-game characters and other players. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is the first game in the series to include an online multiplayer feature, which is enabled in the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii versions. Initially the game offers over 70 songs, most of which are master tracks. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions feature the ability to download additional songs. The musicians Tom Morello (of the bands Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave) and Slash (of Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver) make appearances both as guitar battle opponents and playable characters in the game. The PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 versions also include Bret Michaels (of Poison) as a non-playable character.

Career Mode

The Guitar Hero 3 Career Mode was probably the funnest out of all of the Guitar Hero Games since it had the best songs. Most of them were cool like "Before I forgot" By Slipknot, "Stricken" by Disturbed and there were a ton of other cool songs. Plus it was fun since you could use a Guitar to play if you had one.. Well, not any Guitar but the one that came with the game if you bought it brand new. Some of the songs were really difficult to pass especially "Through the Fire and Flames" by Dragonforce and it was the hardest song in the whole game. If you had a buddy, there was also Co-Op so both of you could play splitscreen.

Multiplayer

The Multiplayer was basically You vs. your Friend that was near you. It wasn't online but I guess it was basically just for fun and there were 3 Modes (I believe).. One where you and your friend/relative play and each of you have the same notes at the same time, another was when you would play one part, your friend/relative would play the other and keep on continuing and there was another one where you could use these power ups where you would get the upper advantage so for example, there was one where if you got the power up your opponent would now have to play lefty making the notes to be switched.

Multiplayer was really fun to play, especially if your opponent was trying and not just pressing random buttons.. It would also be funner if you two were on the same level since it would be more of a competition. (=

Online

The online could have been Slightly improved.. There was hardly any lag or no lag at all since your not really using a Host that much since it's just two screens and both of you are playing. It would of been fun if they would have created a couple more Game Modes rather than the 3 I've included Up there.. In the Multiplayer Section..

Rating

8.5/10

I'm going to go with an Eight since there were a couple drawbacks in the Online.. There was a lot of cool songs especially on the Dashboard where you could download about 15+ More. There was also a Halo Music Download <3 and some other cool ones.. Anyways, 8/10 would be my Final Rating!
I only bought this game since I played it on the PS2 and it was very fun and I thought it would be easy getting achievements... I was wrong..

Who cares if the game is old. Who cares if its out-dated? Although it's old, its a great game, and that those who have never heard about it, should try it.

OT: Great review. This game brings back memories of playing GH with all my buddies.
