Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2

Developer: Bizarre Creations
Publisher: Activision
Release: July 30, 2008
Platform: Xbox 360
Genre: Multi-directional shooter
Rating: ESRB E

Synopsis:
The player controls his/her ship to destroy the enemy shapes. The object is to score the highest points in the game mode without running out of lives. You lose a life by getting hit by a shape (enemy). In some game modes, the player has acces to bombs that, when deployed, will destroy all shapes on the board.

First Impression:
Being a fan of the Geometry Wars series so far, I was very excited for the new game. It was very fun and addictive. One thing that may get on people's nerves if the fact that you have to unlock more game modes by playing the ones you already have. It might get annoying due to the fact that the most popular game mode, pacifism, is unlocked after a good time of playing.

Gameplay:
The gameplay is this game is great. Smooth and clean graphics add to the intensity of the game. All game modes in Geometry War: Retro Evolved 2 are fun and it's hard to pick a favorite.
The following are all game modes available:
Deadline: The player must get as high a score possible within a 3 minute time limit. If the player looses all lives, they will stick with the score they had when they died.
King: The player is left with one life and no bombs. Circles are placed all over the map that are labeled as "safe-zones". When entered, these "safe-zones" only last for a couple seconds before disappearing. The player can only shoot from within the safe-zones.
Evolved: Evolved is most similar to the original Geometry Wars. They player starts out with 4 lives and 3 bombs and can earn more throughout his/her progress in the game. There is no time limit.
Pacifism: In this game mode the player CANNOT fire. They must fly trough gates to destroy the blue shapes, while avoiding the deadly orange ends of the gates.
Waves: The player must avoid waves of rockets the fly vertically and horizontally.
Sequence: This mode consists of 20 levels. Each level has a consistent pattern of enemies.
All game modes are fun and addictive.

Graphics:
The graphics on this games are very nice and crisp. Especially when you are playing on a larger TV that is 720p or better. The colors are very clean.

Controls:
The controls are very simple in this game.
Left Stick - Moves the ship
Right Stick - Controls firing
Left Bumper - Trigger Bombs

Ratings:
Gameplay - 9/10
Graphics - 9/10
Controls - 10/10

Average Rating - 9.3/10
