Story
I have to say I loved the story! It's one of the most developed and well planned storylines in a fighting game I've experienced, which spans/includes the original stories from games 1 to 3. There's no building of a character or powering him up in the conventional sense (but certain things can be purchased with points you earn winning fights) so you get to go right in there and inflict GBH on your enemies. Win!
One thing to note is that there's no multiplayer co-op, which can be done locally on a console through tag team ladder. This seemed pretty poor to me; it can't have been much of a leap to allow for this online also.

Gameplay
There's three types of game modes to progress through; Arcade Ladder, Challenge Tower and Story mode. Arcade Ladder is your basic bread and butter tournament where you work your way through 10 opponents to bring home the W. The Challenge Tower is a fairly large and mixed tournament where you get to beat enemies while blessed or inflicted with abilities such as armless, legless or headless. And the Story Mode, as mentioned above, spans the game story from MK1-3 in a war to contain Outworld and stop Shao Khan and his minions from consuming Earthrelm.
New features include tag team action which allow for tag moves; if punching your enemy in the groin just isn't cutting it then have your tag partner hold him while you kick him there repeatedly.
As with all MK games the fatalities are awesome and gruesome, ranging from cutting/tearing your enemy in half to ripping organs from their flesh - Toastie!

Graphics
The graphics are obviously vastly improved from the originals but for a next gen console game they weren't anything special. The main characters looked detailed and smooth, but in the backgrounds of certain stages - Shao Khan's stadium in particular - spectators and scenery were pixelated and appeared to be rushed.

Controls
The control system has had a minor facelift which makes for a more intuitive and flowing battle; no more 15 button combos and you wont need a third hand to pull of fatalities! All the characters have different moves, but the basic controls are neatly aligned for them (if you can pull off a Street Fighter fireball or sonic-boom then you're already halfway there).

Rating: 7

I've always been into these types of fighting games since the first Tekken.

This game amazed me with it's graphics and detail.

I highly recommend this game if you like fighting games.

But like all other fighting games it's kind of repetitive, and you tend to just get over it.

if it had free roam like deception + free choice of missions like deception then it would be a 10 easily but because its not free roam i rate it a 7/8.
