Hey guys,

It's been forever since I've been on here, so forgive me if I posted this on the wrong forum, but I'm needing some help with my build.

So, let me start by saying I can physically build a PC and troubleshoot most things, but this one is keeping me stumped.

I tried upgrading to Windows 11 the other day, only for the PC Health Check app to tell me that my computer was not compatible. I started looking into why it wasn't compatible, and basically Secure Boot and the way that my HDD's and SSD's are formatted will not allow Secure Boot to enable.

So, I did what anyone else would do, YouTube'd it. Now I've got my boot settings all messed up and now my computer will not boot into windows anymore.

If somebody could help me understand what is happening and how I can go about fixing it, that would be fantastic. I wouldn't mind FaceTiming or Skype or whatever y'all use now to help me do this, because I can't boot into windows (I'm typing this on my MacBook)

Thanks!

So the not boot issue started occurring after youtubing the issue and fixes? What actions were displayed in this video? Did you revert them all back to the original setting?

Disable secure boot, create a flash drive with MSDART. It will allow you to boot into a repair tool.

Windows has a built-in tool for this: youtube.com/watch?v=hfJep4hmg9o

Did you change the boot mode in the BIOS? When you boot, do you get to the advanced startup screen? Post what you did and I can tell you how to undo it.

Edit*: I firstly was able to initialize the M.2 as a GPT format, which I figured I might be able to get around the secure boot issue of it not being formatted correctly if I just migrate windows files to the already correct formatted SSD. Something went wrong in migrating it and now won't boot.

Well, I didn't exactly follow the video. So, trying to remember what happened step by step, I remember trying to migrate my OS to my M.2 SSD, which is when it stopped booting. Now I can only boot into BIOS and no matter what SSD or HDD I select it doesn't boot. When I select the M.2 to boot from, it says something got corrupted.

I'm sure I'm going to have to wipe it and start over, unless there's a way around it. But I don't even know how to do that from BIOS

Yes, I changed the boot mode. Cannot get to the advanced startup screen because Windows is now moved to the M.2, and is not booting when selected to boot from M.2.

Yes I would assume it's likely corrupted as well. The best way to wipe it is to get a fresh copy of windows on some form of media, Ex: USB. Then boot to that. Once it boots to windows setup, you will hit Shift + F10 to open CMD.

enter Diskpart by typing "Diskpart"
Use the command "List Disk" this will list the disks that are available on your PC by number starting with 0. You then can use the command "Sel" to the select the disk Ex: "Sel Disk 0"

From there you then can wipe the disks by using the command "Clean".

From there you can then type "exit" 2 or three times and close the cmd. After that you should be able to use the GUI provided in windows setup to format and partition the drive.

If you need any help along the way shoot me a message.

Yes, I changed the boot mode. Cannot get to the advanced startup screen because Windows is now moved to the M.2, and is not booting when selected to boot from M.2.

Change the mode back and see if it boots.

You probably need to fix the boot record. Cloning boot drives never works. Either get into advanced startup or create a Windows install flash drive ( go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209 ) and get to a command line. You can try startup repair, but it probably won't work.

Then use the bootrec tool to recover the boot record: support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic...bf51f7dd5d

Once the PC boots with MBR, follow the Microsoft Mechanics video I linked to change to GPT.

Here is a video of what I can see and everything I messed with.

It's not corrupted. Boot record is missing. No need to wipe. Do not run "clean" in diskpart if you don't want to wipe.
