Hello, first time posting trying to troubleshoot my decade old system:

Case: Antec with 3 x 120mm case fans
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3350P CPU (Ivy Bridge)
Heatsink: Noctua
MB: Gigabyte Z77X-UP5 TH-CF
PS: Thermaltake 850W
Memory GSkill PC3-12800
Video: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series (HIS)
Monitor: BENQ 32" 2K
Drives: 3 x SSD and 3 x HDD various sizes
Optical drive: SATA CD/DVD R/W
OS: W10

System runs just fine and the CPU temperature is 28 to 40 Celcius, depending on the ambient temperature and load.

The issue is at the time of starting up, more exactly when the power button is pushed to start. The light comes on and goes out immedietly without the fans starting up. Shut off the power supply on the case couple times and reset the surch protector as well, that results in the system starting up normally. The fans spin up, the BIOS screen shows on the monitor and Windows loads up. The system is stable, there's no issues.

Shutdown and start the system at times just starts working just fine sometimes, while other times it requires the same nudging as described above.

The system started out as a gaming system long time ego, nowadays, it only used as a business computer. The performance of this system is more than sufficient for my current needs.

What would be causing this issue with the startup, especially in the morning?

TIA...

Issues like these are notoriously hard to diagnose online. I'll try and point you in some general directions that you should be looking at.

BIOS - What ErP settings do you currently have set. Try enabling it if you haven't already or if it's already set to on, switch it off. It'll only turn off wake on lan and other small little things when your PC is off.

Motherboard - Have a quick glance to see if you can see any bulging capacitors. Also, it might be worth one morning just to unplug all of your keyboard, mice, monitors ect and see if it boots first time. I've had systems this age where, for some reason, it wouldn't boot because of a USB device. I still don't understand it but hey, we move on.

Surge protector - Do you run your whole system through this? Try running it just with a normal outlet without the protector bar.

This is most likely a power issue but it's trying to work out from where. It could be any of the above or even the power supply. As I said, super hard to diagnose. If you get anywhere with this or have any questions, let me know.

Thx Adam...

That's pretty much the direction I was going for remediating the issue.

The wake on LAN is disabled, and haven't tried yet to enable it.

I did take the side panels off for the case, looked around, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Might as well blew all of the dust out of it, wasn't much, but was pretty much due on the six month schedule. The possible USB issue is interesting, although only the keyboard, mouse and the port on the monitor use the USB.

The surge protector is a distant posibility, I will try plugging in the PC directly to an outlet.

As for the power supply, if that ends up being the cuprit, then I'd rather build a new system based on the LGA1700 chipset. The Ivy Bridge system is getting old, maybe it's time for a change...

Thx again...

Other than blowing the dust out from the system, I didn't do much else. The system have been running just fine for the last couple of days, no issue with starting up.

Instead of trying to remediate the issue, if it comes back again, I decided to just get a new system built on the Z790 chipset and i5-13600K CPU. I cannot have a system that throws a fit occasionally....
