What do you love and hate about your current occupation?

I love the goofy co-workers I'm around all day, i hate the people that come in 10 minutes before close and ask for an oil change/tire rotate on their Cummins diesel rams lmao

As a Union carpenter I love the pay and benefits as well as the challenge of my specific line of work, but I hate never knowing when the next job is. I make just shy of $50/hr and medical dental vision retirement benefits but last year for example I worked 1,400 hours.

As a full service vehicle detailer, one thing I love how it's always a different vehicle every day, different types of methods to go about cleaning a car, different stains, different contamination to the paint, and just being able to see how well the car goes from being dirty to clean.

It's also a joy to be able to work by yourself, not really too dependent on coworkers, seeing as all the work is on me, so I get to just clean cars, jamming out to music, in my shop.

Another thing I love is being able to make my own schedule, our shop is facilitated by appointments, so I'm able to set up the schedule to how I like, if I don't feel like doing too many cars in a day, I can limit it to just one or two, or vice versa, I can open up more slots if I wish to do more.

But on top of it all, it really is great seeing the customers pick up their car, and just be in awe when they realize how clean it is, honestly makes my day.

However;

One thing I don't particularly like about my job, is the level uncertainty, I really don't know what I'm getting into until I open up the customer's doors, it could be the filthiest thing I've ever seen, and can take me up to 10-12 hours to complete. Or it could be super clean, and take me a few hours, so if I have a stacked up day, and come across a nasty vehicle, that's where the other detailer and I have to play around the clock to make sure everything gets done in a timely fashion which can be a bit hectic at times.

Or the customers that expect their 1992 Ford Explorer to look like brand new after the 6 quarts of motor oil spilled in their back hatch, yelling at me after explaining why I can't get a stain like that out. https://www.thetechgame.com/images/chat/smiles/monkah.png

But usually that's 1/100, but otherwise I enjoy my job.

I'm an Industrial radiographer, I like it because it pays well and is quite easy. I also hate it because sometimes your away from home for long periods of time. (Spent the last year on the other side of the country.)

I'm an IT engineer for the NHS. I love my job, it's my passion after all. I only dislike the amount of self entitled people I have to deal with.

I do shim and shave for Richmond homes. I enjoy the freedom, I only work by myself and I set my own schedule. The pay is nice as well and dependent on my drive and commitment. I've been doing this for 6 years now and it's the only job that allows me to truly live my life how and spend my time how I desire.

With that said, in order for me to work on a house, it needs to be finished framing and have electrical and plumbing already installed. Sometimes the work overlaps and things aren't moving fast enough so I run out of work for a specific amount of time. There have been issues with wood supply and trade routes since Covid started, so there have been houses that are a month behind schedule and that kind of delay has been effecting me greatly.

Still my favorite thing to be doing, I would always take the slight hit to my pay in return for still being able to work alone and set my own schedule. I can't go back to no 9-5 somebody else dictating my moves type shit.
