As long as they renew the 7 day return I would say go for it. It sounds like they are doing the right thing and trying to work it out for you and they got you in a loaner so there's no real problem for you.

One word of caution I would tell you is get that in writing. It sounds like a big dealer so they probably won't screw you over on that, but I always look at the worst case scenario and if lawyers get involved you need something in writing saying that the 7 day return is reinstated starting from the day it is released to you after being fixed and that the dealer will give you the repair paperwork from the day it is fixed.

Another course of action I would take is tell them that since the 7 day return is void on the 22nd, I either want it fixed on the 21st or I want my money back. If the 21st comes and you get your money back, you are still interested in the car and you are willing to give them X days to fix and at that time you will repurchase it for the same price.

As far as starting your car that varies state by state but I would caution against it. Yes it is technically your property, however you "released" it to them to do repairs. If they started tearing it down and you start it up and cause any extra damage then that's on you and it gets real hairy from there.

I'm going through a lot of check engine light issues on our jeep (bought brand new last year) and the service department tells me the same thing "oh we've driven it 3x today and the light hasn't come back on". We pick up the car and see they've driven a grand total of 5 miles. I told them you guys need to actually drive it, not take turns taking it to lunch, but drive it for 30 mins to an hour, put some miles on it.

Also it sounds like they've looked at active codes and found nothing, but have they looked at stored codes or pending codes?

I'd be interested to see what code is actually being shown on the vehicle, I don't think they should keep that information from you.

When I bought my subaru I had the check engine light on. We scanned it with me there, pulled up the code on the internet and found that it was just a bad electrical sensor. Least gave me peace of mind knowing what the code was, what needed to be done to fix it

My wife for some reason gave them the paper work from their first Attempt which I think was just connecting the wires. But according to the service department she was reading off the report that they have checked for codes and theirs nothing. I mentioned history codes and she said they have found nothing. It's really bizarre. Our newest car minus this explorer was a 2016 fusion and it didn't have this wrench symbol. So idk anything about it. I find it really bizarre that the internet and manual says power train / transmission. And these guys are saying it's a very basic warning light that leads to anything. I think the guy over the phone said that even if the car starts slightly out of sync or idk bad start up the light will show... I don't know much about that light.

So like you said the 22nd is when the 7 days are up. He said give him until Tuesday to keep trying. But like Tuesday is the day we go there not the 22nd so no matter what I'll be seeing them in person on the 21st so I can get something in writing.

That light is pretty much just another check engine light. If the computer thinks something is off with the powertrain (engine, trans, axles, 4x4 components, etc.) then it will trip that light. It could be something as simple as a dirty sensor, or it could be something as serious as a dead cylinder.

Sounds like you are on the right track though!

Forgot to come back to this.

We kept it. They found the issue. It was the push to start. So it genuinely was just not showing for them I believe. It was a weird situation. My wife went to pick it up since we thought the light was gone, and it turned on for her so she drove it right into the service bay. They diagnosed that and fixed it before the day was over.

As far as how I feel about the place. I don't think my feelings have changed. Granted this was a mess, this place is nice and helpful and truly tried their best. This is the second vehicle we have bought from them and I imagine if we're looking for another Ford that's the place we will start at.

a maintenance light is vert different from a check engine light.. a "wrench" light is usually just a mileage counter for the oil change.
