My PC is currently running a semi-modular 800W PSU. It's not a very known brand by my at least (Game Max).

I've had a couple of issues with the PC completely powering down when running things more intensively. High rounds in COD Zombies, New World Beta on max settings etc. No bluescreen, happened randomly so with a headset on I didn't hear fans ramping up (if they did), in the event log viewer I only see a critical error relating to kernal-power.

Made sure Windows is up to date as well as drivers.

By turning down to medium or high, it seems to have stopped the issue from happening since, but I would like to go back to running on higher settings again for some games.

I've talked to the company I bought the PC from, because I don't want to send it in for repair due to also needing it for work, I had come to the conclusion the issue is with the PSU and they agree that is the likely cause of the issue.

I bought an 850W Corsair Gold Fully Modular PSU and it's just arrived yesterday.

My question is, when switching from Semi-Modular to Fully Modular, is there anything I should be aware of? Do I need to unplug 'all' cables from the motherboard, HDD etc, or can I just unplug what isn't modular and plug the existing cables into the modular PSU?

Here's my specs if this makes any difference:

Ryzen 5 3600
MSI 3070
ASUS PRIME B450M-A II
M.2 NVME SSD
SATA SSD
2x HDD

Thanks

Probably too late for this answer to matter but I'll go ahead anyway. You'll need to remove all the old power cables connecting from the PSU to any devices. The connection from the cable to the PSU will be ever so slightly different because why use standards... So rip out everything and re-cable with your new cables that arrived with your new PSU.

Everything from the semi modular should be fine to stay in once you swap full modular its usually just the cpu and 24pin motherboard depending on the power supply that are unable to be left in. Best idea is to take every cable out of the semi modular and reconnect to the full modular once its back in

Please don't do this.

Thanks, not too late yet, waiting for a few days off work at the beginning of the week before I go ahead. I will swap out all cables though to be safe. Thanks for the heads up. Seems a lot think swapping all cables out would be best so I will use the safest method.

I'm not looking forward to snaking cables through the case but should be worth in the end. Thank you!
