hi I am new to these forums and I have a slight problem I am trying to build an older pc too run older games because I really miss the old games I used too play and they wont run on my new system, I am still waiting for parts but I have one concern. I got a 500 watt power supply its a GT Predator 500 watt PSU and I want to run a

GIGABYTE MOTHERBOARD GA-G41M-Combo DDR3/DDR2 LGA775 REV2.0
X5460 3.16ghz CPU LGA775 Modded with a bios update
4gb DDR3 kingston ram
and a Nvidia geforce 970GT O.C edition
3.5 inch 500gb HDD

I am hoping that since the only thing I am running that takes up a lot of power is my GPU that I might get away with using my 500 watt SPU for now until I can get a bigger one later but I am concerned that if the PSU over stresses and shuts down it will do dmaage to my PC.

Looking online I'd assume the 500W PSU would be capable.

I don't see any issue running that power supply with that hardware tbh so you would be fine.

Firstly, very interesting build. I can see you're on a budget and getting very creative with the hardware.

That said, I personally wouldn't use that PSU for new hardware but it'll serve your purpose just fine. Oddly, there used to be a website that done PSU reviews but it's now offline permanently which is a shame so I can't really back up my claim.

Best thing to do is to try it. I'm sure it'll work fine.

thanks guys

Yeh I am trying to save as much money on this build as I can and the
Xeon X5460 is only just behind the Core2 QX9650 in performance but much much much cheaper so If my plan goes right I saved maybe half my money
