I have a 01 Tahoe with 12 wides I want to put spacers on nothing bigger then 2 inches and I've heard people say bad things about spacers what's y'all's opinion??

Usually everyone that has bad things to say about wheel spacers have either installed them without torquing them properly or they bought cheap spacers. Buy wheel spacers that are hub centric.
I think far from stock is one company that has good spacers. Might want to check on prices because you might be better of selling your current setup to buy 14 wides. Unless you like the 12 wides and just want a wider stance.

Also check out whistlindiesel on YouTube. He stacked wheel spacers before and he always had good luck with them. Lol

I will never do spacers again personally. There's too much that can go wrong and when it does it costs a heck of a lot more than just buying new wheels. I needed a new wheel, fender, lower control arm, rotor, and lower ball joint when one of my spacers called it quits. I got lucky and the tire just ended up in the bushes, not in someone's house or car / face.

There's always the talk of like what was said above in that well a lot of people have good luck with them. My spacers were Bora hub centric spacers, used Loctite and torqued them to factory specs but it still fell off. I know if you're running 12 wides you have a little extra money from time to time and can afford either 14 wides or 12 wides with more offset lol.

bolt on spacers are just fine aslong as their hub centric. torque them corectly.

they do however put som eextra stress on your wheel bearings but nothing too crazy

I've been running 1.25" wheel adapters for a couple months so that I can use my 5x112 wheels, it's a shame that happened to you. I'm curious though, what exactly did happen? I assume the studs to your lug nuts (or bolts) snapped and the wheel came with it??

If so I had a similar scenario except with a over-torqued flywheel after doing a clutch job on a VW. Long story short don't rent torque wrenches from auto zone. I was torqueing a new lightweight flywheel "to spec" according to auto-zone's torque wrench, I finish the job, took the car for a test drive and within 2 minutes I hear something inside the trans break loose. Took it back apart and saw every single flywheel bolt sheared right off because they were over torqued (thanks auto-zone). As a result I bought a new torque wrench, new flywheel bolts and buttoned everything up "to spec" with my new torque wrench and had no problems since. It's been a good 6+ months since that clutch job was done.

Maybe something similar happened when torqueing your wheels? If the studs/bolts snapped I don't think the spacers are at fault, unless the studs from the spacer itself snapped off?

I'll try to find the pics again, originally I thought the nuts just stripped out, but the spacer was actually deformed (pointed out by someone on a thread like this that I commented on). The deformation is probably what caused a wobble in the tire and the lugs to give out.

I don't rent tools, unless it's something very specific that I probably won't use again like a ball joint press. I have 3 torque wrenches (one for inch lbs, one for ft lbs up to like 75 or 100, and one that goes up to 250 ft lbs). I usually get the smaller 2 re calibrated, however the bigger one I really only use for suspension parts or wheels and I will go on record and say you don't have to be too exact with that lol.

I know there's people like Whistlin diesel that will run 10 stacked spacers with no issues, but the fact is it's another part that can fail and many of us have had those failures. I personally won't run a wheel spacer or adapter again, I will always choose the buying the right wheel route.

They deformed, wow that's really bizarre. Hopefully they weren't sent or machined that way. Do you remember which company sold you these? Just so I and anyone viewing know who to avoid if we're in the market, despite the risks taken while running them.

Yeah I'm not really sure what caused it, they were 2" adapters from Stage 3 motorsports. This is the only picture I have left of just the spacer taken from a potato phone in 2014 lol, but you can see where the wheel was not in even contact with it. I'll keep searching for the picture, but there was a picture with the spacer still on the wheel from the back and you could see a probably 1/16" gap between the spacer and the wheel. Full discloser that was after the wheel came off so the spacer very well could've gotten bent after the fact and may not have came to me deformed but you can see the lugnuts in the middle that I used, those were what held on the the wheels prior for a few years so I know they were good, and as always spun on by hand because I was too cheap to get a impact gun lol so they were not cross threaded.
