My specs: Ryzen 5 2600 CPU
GTX 1660 6gb GPU
16GB DDr4 Ram. 3200MHZ (2x8gb)
PSU: Thermaltake 430w PSU (its old lol)

I was thinking I should upgrade my psu, what do you guys think? i know my gpu recommends something more powerful.

550-600w should be more than enough. Most 500w supplies are enough. The wattage does tend to slightly extend past their marketed limit at times. Unless you plan on OCing or adding in a beefy card there is no real reason to upgrade you PSU granted it is at least 80+ rated in some way.

As stated previously, 550-600 for sure would be fine. But it depends on what you're looking to spend and if there are other upgrades you are planning in the near future? If you are upgrading your graphics card to one of the new 3k series or maybe a stronger CPU, it just depends.

I don't have a reccomendation for psu just yet but I can take a look in a few and PM you if you'd like.

Quality matters more than wattage. The 430W unit you currently have is obviously enough. An R5 2600 + GTX 1660 system is going to use more like 230W. Although, the quality of your current unit isn't great, so an upgrade wouldn't go amiss.

So, what is your budget and currency?
Also, the make and model of your case would be useful.

Might be worth taking the opportunity to upgrade your case tbh. That's entirely up to you though.

Well, you're wanting to upgrade PSU? So what's your budget for that at least?

If your current CPU+GPU are doing you fine, then there's obviously no reason to upgrade those. Motherboard and RAM are probably fine, you would know if you wanted to upgrade those. Could always add more storage(SSD and/or HDD) but you'd also know if you needed/wanted more/faster storage.

So that only really leaves case, PSU, and peripherals to upgrade.
