Probably looking for 002 feedback haha but everyone is welcome of course!!! EDIT: just started going down the threads and found your post saying you owned a 2006 king ranch. This is a 2003 king ranch I'm looking at with a motor swap from a 2006 (unknown 2006 truck at this moment but says motor is from 2006)

Hello! Real quick... Besides "your dumb" I'm looking on feedback about a 2006 6.0 turbo diesel. One came up and I'm pretty interested but everyone is telling me no that they are expensive to maintain. I think I looked it up before but not too much in depth. Main reason for expense is due to stronger parts. They were going off about tune ups and worrying about the Diesel jelling up.

Now is a diesel truly more expensive then a gasser? I've owned a 1999 F-150 5.4l v8 for a little over 4 years now and I have had no big fixes / maintenance. Now that may because I don't maintain well or because gassers are SIMPLY cheaper. What I'm wondering are both types exactly the same, are people just saying they are more expensive because parts are truly more expensive. Or, are they more expensive due to really needing more special maintenance.

Now the biggest "your dumb" portion. ***I will not tow / haul with this diesel***. I simply want it because it's already "setup" to sound like a sick af jet engine (I don't know what is even needed for this). I want this truck because it's big and loud and cool. I feel like that's not incredibly bad either. They are cool trucks. I know nothing about diesels...

If you know nothing about diesels you should buy a 7.3. The 6.0 Powerstroke is a great truck after many stock parts are gone. They take time to learn and are very complex pieces of equipment.

Yes diesels cost more. Fuel, parts, additives you name it cost more. Every oil change is $100,injectors 3000-4000 dollars. Head gaskets and studs $6000.

Yes they cost more but they are alot of fun to work on and build up. If you don't haul or tow its not very practical but cant take the money with you lol

Laying in bed just looking random things up. Found this post on a forum.

Are you going to keep this thing for 2 or 300,00 miles?? Probably not. So. if you want a diesel then get one and enjoy it. Don't worry about the short trips, just enjoy the truck. Take it out on weekends and blow it out, get it good and hot. Just change oil more often.

People talk about these things like they are som divine machine that needs to be tucked in at night and breast fed for the first year. Just use it like any other car or truck.

I have put nearly a million miles on my ram diesels and have simply changed oil + filter every 7K and fuel filter every 15 to 20K. I flush and change anti freeze every two years, regardless of miles and when I have an automatic I diligently change the fluid annually. I never tow.

Otherwise I just drive it, I never warm it up. Start it and GO!! Never let the turbo cool at idle for a precise amount of time. I shut it off and go about my business. I have never once had any engine problem. I have had to rebuild some automatic trannies at around 70 or 80K and I got 175K out of one tranny and never rebuilt it. The rest of the truck is just that, a DODGE pickem up truck, so don't think your getting some million mile wonder truck. The door hinges wear out, power windows wear out, everything wears out. But the motor keeps on tickin.

Enough venting. They are great trucks, been driving them since 1990. But Pay no mind to your short trip to work. Want one, get one and enjoy it.

I can't say much about ford but I got a 2014 6.7 cummins with a manual mansmission and I love it. Before I bought it everybody talked like the upkeep on it cost alot more. Which in a away if you can't change your own oil and fuel filter and some other stuff here and their, then yes it is a bit more expensive.

I can change my oil and oil filter for less then $50. rotella oil with factory filter. I buy the oil for like $50 for 5 gals when It goes on sale.
Fuel filter- less then $100

Diesel fuel is more expensive but you get better mpg with a diesel. Diesel here right now is about the same price as regular. $1.87 for diesel. But usually in other area's it's about 30 cent more then regular.

Injectors are more expensive but as long as you change the fuel filter on time and get diesel fuel from productive gas stations then you really shouldn't have a problem with injectors.

I just did a quick search and 6.0 ford head gasket kit and arp head studs and other needed gaskets for less then $1400. But yes everything for a diesel, parts wise is a bit more expensive.


The only thing that I know about the ford 6.0 is that it needs to be bulletproof before any major modifications is done. Power wise. (002 correct me if I'm wrong. I'M NOT A FORD GUY LOL)

I had a 2012 gmc Sierra before this truck. And I'm thinking that if it wasn't for the fuel filter change every 10-15k miles, I'll be paying about the same maintenance and fuel wise. But $100 extra for fuel filter a year for driving a diesel truck is priceless. Lol

Yes this. I love in a small ish town. But we have one gas station that's constantly full and we have two major factories and one major mil here in town so I'm sure diesil gets slurped up without even thinking about all the close by farmers. I also saw fuel injector cleaner does work in diesels and was suggested. The guy that owns the truck says he changed the fuel filter every year in fall.

I'm waiting for his reply now and I guess that's the make or break. The owner before him replaced the motor but not for fun so I'm nervous but I'm also hoping when he swapped it he may have done some bulletproofing. He has "paperwork" from the swap and I'm just hoping while the motor was out they were smart... If the paperwork doesn't have any signs of additional work and the current seller doesn't have any knowledge on if any bulletproofing has been done I'm not sure what I will do yet.. I'm not broke but I don't know how willing the wife would be to throw thousands at it.. I can do my own work and I saw some vids last night about removing the heads without removing cab or doing a whole motor pull, and I'll be keeping my other truck so I could do studds right away I'm not sure on the egr delete thing how that is done so not sure there.

I really want this truck but the talk about being 6.0 makes me look kinda dumb for buying it and if it does break I'm never gonna hear the end of it and idk how the wife would feel..

I have a 2004 6.0 myself and love it. Have had some issues with the HPOP and a couple injectors but was more of a fault to the previous owner than the truck in general. I would not recommend getting it if you have no mechanical knowledge because the bill can add up. Throughout owning the truck I have learned a ton on how to work on it and have saved myself 1000s in labor. To get the jet sound you are talking about will come from an 03 turbo (10 blade) and a straight pipe exhaust which is what I have. My neighbors dont like it but I sure do. I don't tow often with it but every once in awhile with a ski boat and mainly use it for hauling stuff in the bed. Many people in the 6.0 community who do regular maintenance and don't beat on the truck see 300k+ miles on them. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Haven't bought the truck yet. Took it for a drive and everything seemed great. I'm worried about this rust tho. It's in both sides this photo is the rear doors while open and then just the cab corners by themselves... I know it's common rust but I'm afraid of it really getting bad in a year or two... How expensive is something like this to get fixed.. can it even be fixed?

This is copy and pasted from a different forum I use. Looking for more insight

Okay so I am looking to buy the truck tomorrow but I don't know if it is a good idea now.. I'm alone with my 1 year old today and we don't have a way of getting the big towns nearby... But was just watching some tip videos and one was saying if you have coolant coming out of that reservoir could mean blown head gasket. Their was coolant on the reservoir when I checked it out the other day... Their was no white streaking and it wasn't alot of coolant but their was some there.... Is this a bad idea? Are their other ways you should be able to tell if a head gasket is blown? The guy in the video said it could mean plenty of other things but didn't list those things off just said 9/10 means bad gaskets... The guy said I could look again but I let him know I'm not really available and I'd have to have it here at my house 4-5 hours so just waiting to hear back about that... This is a bummer being so close
