Hi, I'm from Kenya and I have been thinking of building my own PC for photo and video editing. Locally most PCs are over priced or just not available in the configuration I want
I would be sourcing for parts from USA through Amazon and other sites I however have no experience with building pcs and I would appreciate any advice on the process, from choosing the right parts to sourcing them to assembling them What is your budget and currency? For the whole setup, I can go to a max of 1500 USD - I'll consider prices in USD since I am getting nearly all the parts from USA What will you use the PC for? I'll use it for photo and video editing The software I will be using are:
Affinity photo Davinci Resolve Active presenter The usual software such as MS office, Firefox, etc Do you need a monitor? If not, what monitor(s) will you be using? I will need this also - however, I might get this locally since shipping a heavy screen will cost a lot - but if I can't find it locally, then I will have to consider buying it from USA Do you need a keyboard, mouse, or other peripherals? I can get these locally Do you need an operating system? I will get Windows online Will you overclock? This is something I don't know if it helps for editing - if I can still do the same tasks without overclocking and it saves on cost, then I will definitely choose that Anything else we should know? I tried building one using pc part picker but I'm not sure if this is a good setup or not. The total cost for the items below is already around 1150USD and I haven't added the case, screen, accessories, Windows and office. If there is a way to get the cost down, I would appreciate if I can be guided - maybe choosing a different processor?

Chintan_Gohel wrote I wonder if my post didn't meet requirements or it got missed? Missed it. I have to ask though, will you be purchasing parts from US sites? If so, I'd imagine you'll have some heft delivery costs and fee's to pay upon delivery. Are there no Kenyan sites, or would it not be easier ordering from elsewhere within Africa? If you're able to buy within your own country(or even continent), I imagine that'll be a lot easier and cheaper than buying from America, and any US parts lists will then be irrelevant to you if you're not buying from the US. If I was building a system with monitor for $1500US, then I'd probably be looking at something like this; PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Best Buy) Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard ($126.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Team T-FORCE DARK Za 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory ($109.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Crucial P2 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($104.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: Asus GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB DUAL Video Card ($500.00) Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400A Digital ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: Cooler Master MWE Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($89.99 @ Amazon) Monitor: AOC U2790VQ 27.0" 3840x2160 60 Hz Monitor ($269.99 @ Amazon) Total: $1491.93 but again, you should really be buying closer to home if possible, and if you do then product availability/pricing is going to be completely different from the US, so most of these specific components probably won't make much sense. It is also worth noting that AMD are announcing next generation Ryzen CPU's on October 8th, which I'd definitely hold off for. Also, the RTX 3070 will be released on October 29th, a day after AMD announce their next generation Navi 2 GPU's(which also might be worth considering). |
