Hello everyone, I've got a question and its potentially a stupid one,
but thought i would throw it out there anyway. i'll try to keep it short.

I've got a cheap Dell mini Inspiron 3471 I bought a few months ago. it didnt run great, I upgraded the ram from 4gb up to 16gb(corsair) and its been Way better.

I wanted to get a nicer case for it.

can anybody tell me if this is has a ATX, Micro ATX or Mini ITX board? (I had never even heard of these terms an hour ago)

and would it be possible to swap it into this case?

I managed to swap out the ram without issue, thought maybe i could do this to...

I apologies for my obliviousness when it comes to this stuff/my questions.

Thanks in Advance for any help/advice

If I'm not mistaken, the Dell Mini Inspiron 3471 is a small form factor PC? If you can post a link to the exact one you have that may be helpful. I'm guessing there are multiple versions and generations.

The two most common SFF sizes are Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX. That being said, the case you linked is Micro-ATX, so it should be able to accommodate everything just fine. I think the larger case will be nice as it will also allow you to upgrade other components, and add any needed cooling, which will keep your options open for you in the future.

Let's see what 21 thinks too. He is the true computer god:)

I reckon he means his motherboard, not the case he linked.

In DIY builds, yes. Dell and HP are notorious for using proprietary components though, especially weird proprietary form factor motherboards(like BTX and uBTX). Shame really, makes stuff like this a nightmare.

Up to mATX. ATX and "EATX" will of course, not fit, just to clarify.

Tasty wrote I'm guessing there are multiple versions and generations.

That would be correct. As far as I can see, there are "Inspiron 3471"s with CPU's up to even Intel "9th gen", and I imagine there are some with CPU's as old as Sandy Bridge(2nd gen).

OP - Download Speccy, HWMonitor, HWInfo64 or any other monitoring tool. These should give you more specific information on the components inside your system. You should be able to get the make and model number of the motherboard, or at least some information about it.
If you post a screenshot of one of these monitoring tools, or list the specific components in your system, then we should be able to actually help you. Currently, we've not got enough information to help at all(Dell's fault in this case, not yours).

Thanks Very much for the replies! appreciate the time everyone!

yes, I should have clarified I was asking if the computer itself is ATX/Micro ITX? i cant find this info anywhere and i'm worried as 21 mentioned that it might be something specific for dell???

^^^above is a link to the computer it self.

It would be nice a nice project to take on over the next couple weeks. just wanted to have SOME idea if its even possible.

thanks again everyone!

I contacted Dell and they said it has a proprietary mother board.

They never seem to know what they are saying so who knows how accurate that is.

anyway seems like its not going to work unfortunately.
