Hello geezers,

Please can somebody advise me on where to start with a custom build? My budget is approximately £1000 (GBP) and that is just for the PC. I do not require a copy of Windows and I am not looking to overclock. The computer will mainly be used for gaming (World of Warcraft, CoD, etc). Also, I would ideally like an Intel CPU. Any pointers will be highly appreciated, thanks in advance.

What will you use the PC for other than gaming, if anything?
Do you need a monitor? If not, what monitor(s) will you be using?
Do you need a keyboard, mouse, or other peripherals?

Don't buy Intel then.

Back in time people didn't start a conversation with an insult.
I'm 27. Geezer does not define us.

Intel = Overclocking happy happy.
AMD = Oh you thought overclock?! YOU DIE. BLUE SCREEN.

because the only argument for Intel over Ryzenis it's slightly higher single core performance, which you only get when you overclock to 5GHz.
With a locked Intel SKU, something like an i5-10400, then you're just going to perform on par with Ryzen. However, with Ryzen, you have more features and better upgradability.

If you're going to buy Intel, then buy a 10600K or another unlocked SKU, set it to 5GHz and be on your way. You have to pay the premium for Intel, and it's still not worth it IMO, but if you're just going to buy Intel anyway, then at least actually benefit from it.
