Hello; I'm a complete newbie to forums ; pc building and well all of this. Please forgive me for anything i
do wrong. Honestly, i even had to look up how to use a forum. I'm looking to build the best pc for gaming i can. could only afford used parts. i kept focusing on this motherboard with an a8 6600k at first. then dawned on me i have one that i just put a i5 in plus it has twice the ram slots only idk which would make a stronger gaming pc. i would be grateful for any suggestions. |

Yeah, defo need more information here.
So, do you have any computer hardware currently? If yes, what are they? What are you trying to get out of this computer? Kind of need a budget to work from here to gain an idea of the parts that you could buy |

Sorry, see im just trying to build with parts i currently own . As i save to buy new components. i have a
Gigabyte motherboard GA-F2A55M-HD2 ver.1.2 It currently has the AMD A8 6600k cpu and only 2 dimm slots. the other motherboard is a hewlett-Packard 1497 socket O according to speccy. i have an i5 2400 in that it has 4 dimm slots . Both take ddr3 dual channel . i also have two graphics cards a Zotac 770 amp 2GB vram with fan noise issues . which apparently is common with the 770's and a Saphire Nitro R9 390 8gb vram.. i will be buying a new gpu soon i'm looking to spend around $500 on I was thinking to get an AMD card since my monitor has freesync . any sugestions on that or new motherboard would be extremely grateful for. maybe around $200-300 on a motherboard and cpu. |

So, you've got an $800 budget but you need to buy used parts? Why?
We can't recommend a CPU/Mobo because we don't know what case you're using. We can't recommend a GPU because we don't know what PSU you're using. If you've got an $800 budget though, you can easily build an entirely new system that will be better than using any of the components you already have tbh. i5-2400 is better than A8-6600K by far. R9 390 is better than GTX 770. |

those are the parts i currently have that I'm looking to build the best system i can for now. Until i can buy all new components . And the power supply is an evga 650 w .
i knew the R9 was a better card i just wasn't sure about CPU. my case is an Corsair carbide 500r. I'm sorry about the confusion this is the first time I've ever posted anything in any forum. not sure of all the correct things to do. |

So you were just wondering if the A8 or i5 would be better? i5 definitely. The i5-2400 is really showing it's age now though, so an upgrade to a more modern CPU with hopefully more cores/threads would be beneficial. Also, that HP motherboard has come from an OEM system so it might use proprietary power connectors, which means your PSU might not work. Dell are really bad for doing that kind of stuff, so that you can't re-use any of their own hardware in a new system(usually mobo, PSU and case). I'm not sure how bad HP are for it, especially with hardware that old, but just worth noting/checking since it might be a bit of a hassle. If the motherboard fits in your Carbide 500R though, and you can connect the 24-pin power from your PSU, then you're good to go. |
