Long story short, i found out that if you do reset an android phone you have an option to restore from a back up and by the grace of god i remember the email i used from 4 years ago to set up my account. But will it erase everything even if i restore from back up, meaning would i lose text messages, things i wrote in the note application, etc...?

Hey there! Great question. Just to make sure, what device are you using? If restoring via the google account backup you won't lose notes but in most cases you lose the messages (unless you have a newer Samsung device). Make sure before restoring you do a final google backup to make sure it updated.

The phone im using is a motorola nexus 6 from years ago, 4 or 5 to be exact. Now its not my current device but i can still put my sim card in there and it connects to the att network. I want to say ive done this before and i still had all my apps and everything but i may just be thinking/making that up in my head. Ive tried different ways to remove the pattern lock such as using adb, but i dont have USB debugging on apparently even though im sure i had it turned on. If worse comes to worse ill just have to keep guessing the draw pattern because i have sentimental stuff on there that i really want to get

You can do a hard reset to bypass the screen lock and restore from google backup as long as you know the login to the google account. Messages will not transfer over but apps will and so will contacts, photos, videos, notes, all the good stuff.
