Hello!

I appreciate any advice you could provide as I am a total noob...

I have a PC I built about 10 years ago and I would like some advice on whether there is room to upgrade it or if I would be better off with a new build and if so, what parts I can still use.

The PC Specs are as follows:

    *CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition, 3.2GHz, Cache L2 4x512KB, Socket AM3, 125 W
    *MOBO: GA-880GM-USB3
    *GPU: Radeon HD4200 (Integrated)
    *RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 (x2)
    *Power Supply: Acteck Power-S Z600 600W
*Case: Acteck Helix Pro Gaming ATX

I had this PC in the garage and recently sent it for cleaning and maintenance as I wanted my 10 year old to use it for gaming but I guess I am just way too behind on gaming PC's and he can't play some games as it lags ways to much, not talking about network lag but slowness when he is playing in general. So the main purpose will be gaming.

Should I just buy a GPU? Or upgrade the CPU?
Or should I best buy a new MOBO, CPU, & GPU?
If the latter, what would be a good starting point with room to upgrade in the future if my budget is $1,000 Dlls?

Thanks in advance!

It's really not worth upgrading that at this point. Especially if you have $1000 to spend- definitely just build an entirely new system.

If you want us to be able to help you with a parts list;

If you don't answer these questions, we will post them or refer you back to this post.

  • What is your budget and currency?
  • What will you use the PC for exactly?
  • Do you need a monitor? If not, what monitor(s) will you be using?
  • Do you need a keyboard, mouse, or other peripherals?
  • Will you overclock?
  • Anything else we should know?
