Hello TTG, just heard some bad news we might need to put my dog down long story short he eat a corn cob, had a surgery to get it out which was around $5k, but he wasn't looking good recently so we took him back to the vet and we just got a call saying we could agree to do another $3k+ surgery which we don't have the money for or we can put him down but the surgery would remove and hopefully fix his intestines but remove half of his stomach or something and that will put him in more pain and more drugs so as a family we agreed to put him down. This is a sad day for my whole family and me this is one of my first experiences losing a love one and it truly sucks so remember to cherish your love ones. Thanks for reading.

Edit: his intestines are leaking a liquid and has a bunch of dead tissue inside his stomach and other parts of his body but the surgery has a low survival rate.

Dam...I'm so sorry to hear this man. I actually had a similar experience with the corn on the cob, my dog ate half of it, but was luckily enough nothing happened to him. Obviously doesn't help the case here, but I feel for losing your best friends. It has happened to me in the past, and takes time to recover. My first dog passing I didn't get another new buddy until a couple years later. I would personally put the dog down too, if the surgery was going to put him in a lot of pain and as you said the survival rate is low. You don't want him to suffer and I hope you and your family recover in this sorry time :C

I'm sorry to hear that my previous dog had to be put down, it's not easy to make that choice. But it's better to not have them suffer, sorry to hear that.

He ate a corn cob before but he passed it this time he wasn't as lucky he went in the trash well everyone was sleeping and had his way. I have another dog he's a husky so it probably sucks for him because they played everyday they were basically brothers. Thanks for your opinion on my situation I gave you some rep.

:C aww and I feel bad for your husky too, I never had 2 doggo's in the same house together, but I can imagine how close they were together since you said they always played with each other. Best wishes to you my friend!

I know you already did this but regardless if you had the money or not, I would have elected to put the dog down at this point. Removing half of his stomach as you mentioned would put him in more pain, but it would also change his life completely, eating would not be the same, going to the bathroom would not be the same and I would even argue that simple things like playing or walking would have it's own challenges. On top of that, once you get into surgery that actually removes organs, the chances of a full recovery start to fall. Something like a broken hip that needs metal implants has a way better chance of recovering than say a dog needing to have their intestines stitched up. At least this way you're able to collect your thoughts, prepare how you need to, instead of possibly putting yourself in a financial strain and then sitting on hope that there may not be complications, which then could be a sudden death, instead of preparing for it.

As for your other dog, give it time. Don't jump ship to get another dog to help it out, see how the dog is doing. If it's getting lonesome after about 2 weeks or so, visually depressed, not eating, then possibly get into the talks of getting it another friend. No one can take out any anger at that dog, if the family gets loud at each other, tell them to shut the hell up for a little bit. Going forward, I would also try taking a few minutes to cut up any corn cobs from now on or getting a different trash bin that makes it harder for dogs to get into. Anything with bones in it, throw it in the bin outside and just generally take a few extra minutes to make sure any food that may be big or any objects that may retain liquids, are discarded properly and/or cut up into sizes that won't really be an issue if it's ingested.
