I am trying to come up with an idea of having a traveling studio to position in any room, no matter where I am at and make great music, without building a studio. It will not be used to play instruments, just vocals onto instrumentals, but i want to be able to mix and master well. Laptop must not bog with plugins/program to record, especially while recording.

Do not really wanna spend more than $1-1.5k. I already have a condenser mic, and mixer board from my built studios in the past. TIA

Here is what I have in mind, but willing to listen to anybody that is knowledgeable in this area:

Laptop: ($700)
Acer Aspire E 15 Laptop
15.6" Full HD
8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U
GeForce MX150
8GB RAM Memory
256GB SSD

Monitors: ($89)
Mackie CR Series CR3

Reflection Filter: ($299)
Aston Halo Shadow Reflection Filter + Pop Filter

Headphones: ($49)
Audio Technica ATH-M30x

As far as the laptop goes; That should hold just fine as i don't think vocals alone would be taxing the audio all too much, at least to the point of crackling, if you want something a little more custom; Look into Sager. Custom spec to an extent and handle loads pretty well, others could comment more on this than me. Not a huge fan of using laptops for these use cases. Could you give an idea of what you're planning on running plugin/host wise?

I have a set of CR3s so i can vouch there (though i would pay the little extra four the four inch model)

You will want to get some sound dampening padding, just to keep stability, a reflection filter only covers directly where you are and around the charted area. (i'd just grab a 12-24 pack on amazon and place it as you please(grab some easy removing tape for movement or just tac them in place temp))

The reflection filter You could make your own or buy the Aston. One is just more cost efficient. I haven't personally had much experience using the halo outside of a retailer. It blocks nicely but still need a relatively treated room before jumping right into it.

Slightly different scenario I know but check out Laidback Luke's setup who, if you don't know, DJ's for a living and also produces a lot of his tracks on the move too. Though, he doesn't record vocals on the move which is where I think you'll struggle.

My suggestion would be to have a static place where you record vocals, have them all on your laptop so you can mix / master whilst your on the move rather than recording on the move.

If you do want to record vocals on the move, I'm out of ideas. I'm not in the music industry so I can only give you limited help here!

Good luck though
