I have been using Tescos Premium petrol for the past year or so. Its a Little more pence per litre but ive read its not even worth it! But ive also heard it cleans the engine etc.

Is it really worth getting the Premium petrols?

It depends on the car. Some engines are designed to run on premium fuel and others are not. If your car is not designed to run on premium fuel / you haven't done any upgrades that needs it you are just wasting money.

All gas has cleaners in it, premium just has a higher octane which means the fuel can be compressed more before igniting.

it makes a difference but some cars its not worth it, my cars run premium, if i run regular it pulls timing and i lose power and make it drive like ass. many variables that come into play

I've never ran regular in my caddy since the manual says 93 only but I feel like the throttle response is crazy fast with premium. My car keeps up with chargers and gaps gt mustang's. All stock just 93 octane

Performance cars defo need to be ran on premium.
But for your everyday run of the mill cars dont waste your money

Depends on your car

Premium has the ability to be compressed more without pre-igniting that results in more power when used in the appropriate engine

It should have the reccomended gas on the gas tank lid or in the owners manual

Never ran anything less that premium, used to use V-Power but didn't see the point, Tesco Premium seems to be just as good at a cheaper price. Stick to premium though, nothing less.

You should only be using premium fuels on cars that run higher pressures and temperatures imo.

Bad idea for a lot of cars. The higher the octane number, the more compression the fuel can withstand before igniting. Your car is designed to run on a specific grade / octane, how ever you want to say it. Look in your owners manual but if your car is designed to take 87, there is no sense in trying to make it use more pressure for 93.
