I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 5 3600 and purchased a Corsair Vengeance set of 16GB 3200mhz RAM. However, it's currently running at 2133mhz. I've been in the BIOS and enabled XMP but when enabling it, it boots to windows then whilst logging in blue screens and continues to blue screen regardless of how many times I restart.

I'm new to the custom PC scene and this was my first ever build, this has truly thrown me off course. Can anyone guide me? The motherboard is an Aorus b450 m, it came Ryzen 3000 series ready so I don't think the bios revision could be the issue?

Thank you in advance.

RAM should be a lot more stable now on Ryzen 3000 compared to first gen. First thing I would look at, as you've pointed out, is the BIOS version. Go to your motherboards website and download & install the latest BIOS. The newer the BIOS, the more chance you have of stable RAM.

Next, I'd look at turning down that 3200 to 3000Mhz and see if that's stable.

If you can't get anywhere from there, I'd manually put in your RAM speed / timings / voltages from stock into the BIOS instead of everything on Auto. This shouldn't be needed since 3200 should work out of the box but it could be a BIOS issue where Auto isn't setting the right details.

I'd also have a look at a couple of Youtube videos / guides on how the memory works on Ryzen.

Thank you, I'm going to take a look at how to do it now and give it a crack. I'll report back once I'm done, it's usable, just not optimal as I paid for 3200mhz :L

Update: I've updated the BIOS, I've tried moving the dims to slot 1 and 3 instead of 2 and 4 and still nothing. It's probably worth noting it won't allow me to add custom timings, not sure why. It shows up when in XMP mode as 16, 18, 18, 18 36 I think, or 38. It just won't allow me to alter the timings, multiplier or OC the cpu. I'm probably being a noob and missing something obvious but it's not in "simple mode".

Update, I've managed to get the RAM to run stable at 3000mhz at 1.35v, despite buying 3200mhz ram I must have been unlucky because the system just isn't stable at 3200mhz even if I bump the voltage to 1.4v - Still, I guess 3000mhz is better than 2133.
