I am in the market for a new monitor that is better suited for faster paced gaming and people say "go for the highest refresh rate you can" but I'm wondering if 240hz is even worth it when I could get a 144hz for cheaper or possibly get one that could come with more benefits like 1440p/4K for my non-competitive games that have a lot of artistic detail.

Disclaimer:
I do have a PC that I know is more than capable enough of going all the way up to 240+ FPS at 1080p.

Your average consumer won't notice the difference, especially depending on the types of games you play. I'd say stick with 144hz, unless you have the money to waste and you're wanting bragging rights at the monitor you have.

I feel like the only way to see a difference would to have a side by side comparison. Personally I would go with the 144hz

60 to 144 hz is a massive difference, 144-240 is minor, you will notice but not that much

No, there really isn't much of a difference.
