Hello! I've never built a pc before but have done some research on what I need for my goal.

Alright, I want to build a pc just for the purpose of running a minecraft server(s). I don't know if the parts I've picked are right so I'll want the experts here to help.

Processor: Intel 7th Generation Core i3-7350K 4.20 GHz FCLGA1151 Desktop Processor (BX80677I37350K) [Minimum post requirement for links]

Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler with PWM Fan, Four Direct Contact Heat Pipes [Minimum post requirement for links]

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-B250M-DS3H LGA1151 Intel Micro ATX DDR4 Motherboard [Minimum post requirement for links]

Hard drive: WD Blue 1TB PC Hard Drive - 7200 RPM Class, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64 MB Cache, 3.5" - WD10EZEX [Minimum post requirement for links]

Computer case: Rosewill Micro-ATX Mini Tower Computer Case with Dual USB 3.0, Dual Fans and 12.5-Inch Card LINE-M Black [Minimum post requirement for links]

Power supply: EVGA 500 BR, 80+ Bronze 500W, 3 Year Warranty, Power Supply 100- BR-0500-K1 100-BR-0500-K1 [Minimum post requirement for links]

Ram: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT BLS2K8G4D240FSB 2400 MHz, DDR4, DRAM, Desktop Gaming Memory Kit, 16 GB (8 GB x 2), CL16 (Grey) [Minimum post requirement for links]

I do not intend on using this pc in any other way than just running minecraft servers for my school. If possible I'd want it to be a quiet pc as it will probably be under my bed or in my closet. (My room is on the small side).

I did something similar recently except it is rack-mounted. I would recommend going for a 8 or 9 series intel processor or an AMD Ryzen processor. I went with a Ryzen 5 2600x. Also go for a low profile cooler like a Noctua L9. And getting an SSD is necessary, especially with how many chunks are going to be loaded and saved on a server. I'll do a full part list if you provide a budget, your current list doesn't have a total.

Alright, I guess my budget would be $700. If it's too low I can raise it.

It'd be great if you could give a total parts list because I'm going in pretty blind when it comes to building a pc.

This is pretty similar to what I have. You should be happy with it. You will be able to run multiple instances or 1 big instance with all the cores and ram available to you. (These parts were built at my tax rate, prices may vary)

Unlocked i3 makes no sense with a B250 chipset motherboard. Also the B250 mobo and i3-7350k are way over-priced for what they are. Definitely go with a modern Intel CPU that makes sense, or better yet IMO, go with Ryzen.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3400G 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor ($149.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock B450M Steel Legend Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Team Vulcan 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($61.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Intel 660p Series 512 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($59.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($49.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: SeaSonic FOCUS Gold 450 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply ($64.90 @ Amazon)
Total: $476.84

You can swap the R5 3400G for an R5 2600 or R5 3600 if you want. If you do that though, you will need to buy a discrete GPU for display output. Pretty much any cheap GPU will do the job.

Alright, I see what you guys are suggesting. But minecraft runs on a single thread so I want a cpu that is at most 4 cores so I can run multiple servers at once along with strong processing power to handle the load. That's why I saw the i3 7350k because it's single or dual core but is powerful, I think. If any of those parts lists fit what I'm looking for, please lmk because I don't know what the differences are between 2 brands and types of anything related to computers other than intel because it's in my pc. If you could please explain to me what each parts list means it would help a lot. When it comes to this, I'm below noob lvl.

Vanilla Minecraft only runs on a single thread. Using server software like paper spigot let's it benefit from multiple cores.

If you want better single core performance, you still wouldn't want a 7350k and B250 motherboard. You'd want to overclock for as much single core performance as possible, so you'd need a Z series chipset motherboard, and an unlocked CPU. It also doesn't make sense to buy last gen parts, especially when they're the same price or more expensive than current gen.

So, if you were to go Intel, get a Z370/Z390 motherboard and an i3-8350k/9350k at least. Otherwise, you are just better off with Ryzen. An i3-8350k/9350k will have better single core performance than a 7350k, and has 4 real cores instead of 2 cores, 4 threads on the 7350k. However, an i5-8600k/9600k is only like $30-50 more than an 8350k/9350k, so it would make sense to just get the i5 IMO.

I'd still be going Ryzen though, especially if, as stated above you use software that will benefit more from Ryzen's cores.

Ok, thank you for the help. I guess I'll be going with the Ryzen build. It seems that it's the best choice. With that build price being pretty low to my budget. Could you recommend a more powerful processor? It's 3.7Gz which isn't bad but I'd pay more for something more powerful.

You can get a Ryzen 7 2700X which will definitely be enough for anything you do.

Or you can go Ryzen 3000, which requires an x570 motherboard but is newer and has better IPC.
