I am in the market for a new car. I currently have a 2008 Chevy Impala 3.9 V6 with 180,000 on it. The cars that i have in mind are:

Subaru WRX
Honda Civic Si
Chevy Impala

I want a car that doesn't have a huge price tag and is still capable of having fun with decent storage options. I do want a manual (the impala is only automatic). My budget is 30-35k with a 5k down payment,.

Are there any suggestions that you might have?

It depends on how long you want the car. I know nothing about the newer Subaru's but I've always heard and seen that Subaru's go through headgaskets like no ones business. I don't know if anything has changed in recent years, but because of that I've never considered getting one.

In terms of comfort and such, the Impalas are SUPER nice. They look nice, they feel nice and they are a decent commuter. The Civic isn't the most refined, it definitely won't have the nice feel of the Impala, however the MPG from the Civic is great. Impalas are terrible on MPG but I feel like they were trying to low key go to a luxury status.

If it were my decision, I'd go with the Civic. To me the MPG sells it. It's still a new car so it won't be bad as far as ride quality, Hondas are still pretty reliable (as is the Impala), but all in all it's cheaper and gets better MPG. The Impala looks and feels better but the mileage is just incredibly bad for me to consider getting one although they do have a lot of power.

Again, I have 0 experience with new Subaru's, and the Impala's I've been in were rentals. I rented a Civic a couple years back so those experiences are what I'm going off of as far as how it feels goes.

Another car to look at is the Kia Stinger. It's not a manual but it is a fast cheap car.

Focus ST or you could even get a used RS for around 35k, both manuals of course.

Correct, but if i want a new one in the future, i can't get one due to the focus rs/st only being sold in Europe, which sucks haha.

I am gonna suggest a GTI or Golf R both awesome fun turbo cars with big storage room in the hatch.

I have a 2007 MK5 GTI and i absolutely love it. Once my other car is paid off I am looking at getting a 2018 Mk7 R once the MK8s come out.

The smart decision is to go with the Civiic Si, everything 002 said is pretty accurate. I'd personally probably go with a WRX out of the 3 tho, but I also work on my own stuff. The newer WRX's can be reliable if maintained well, but there is the chance of head gaskets going out quickly. I've also heard Subaru ringlands go to shit pretty fast. My buddy has had a WRX now for a couple years, and has had some changes with bolt ons and a tune.. so far so good still.

Between your options, I'd go with the civic. The insurance wouldn't be too high for most people, and you really can't beat a civics gas mileage!
The WRX's are super nice as well tbh, but I feel like you need to be a certain type of person to really enjoy it.
