UPDATE: 25 people have now been confirmed dead along with 36 people injured. I believe search and rescue operations are ongoing.

UPDATE: huffpost has now reported the total at 33 lives lost. I'll update the topic when more sources support this number.

An arsonist set fire to famous animation studio Kyoto animation Thursday morning. The story is ongoing with police saying there were more than 70 people in the building at the time the fire was set. The arsonist was seen pouring and igniting a liquid and yelling "drop dead!". The 40 year old man believed to be the arsonist is in custody. He reportedly called the animation studio "copycats" which may point to a motive. Apparently the studio has been receiving death threats for several years now.

Kyoto animation is responsible for anime such as clannad and violet evergarden. Sources say directors for both shows: ishihara tatsuya and ishidate taichi respectively, are among the missing.
