So about 3 weeks ago I was going to pickup a friend to go to the gym when I started hearing a rattling sound coming from under the car on deceleration around 2000 RPM. I took it to a nearby Dodge dealer and it was diagnosed as an exhaust problem and they claimed it wasn't a safety concern and it was fine to drive. I take it in for the new exhaust system yesterday and as soon as I left the lot with the new system on the sound was still there. I immediately took it back and they realized it wasn't an exhaust problem and it was actually an engine knock. They claim that the cause was because the dealer I bought it from USED NON-SYNTHETIC OIL DURING THE SERVICING PROCESS... what should be done? The engine is being rebuilt now by the same place that falsely diagnosed the engine knock as an exhaust rattle...

If they are going to charge you for it, go back to the dealer with that information.

I work at a Dodge dealership and have never heard of them buying used synthetic oil. Especially since you have what, a 6.4? Or a 6.2? Which uses 0w-40. ALL dodge dealerships buy BRAND NEW fresh boxes of individual quarts of synthetic oil. Idk if there is more to this story but if they did buy used oil for some reason, I would call Chrysler Capital and tell them about it because they will investigate it further.

If their rebuilding it for free I assume they gave you a rental car to drive for now? As well as paying for your gas while in it if this is the case I consider this a total win
