I'm able to host games on mw2 with xbonline but I can not join other games including searching for games, also when I choose online lobby through the menu players do not join, is there anything I need to do to enable off host? Thanks in advance

You'll need real Xbox Live Gold in order to play public matches on MW2. You can purchase 48 hour codes for relatively cheap and just use those as needed.

I can't seem to find 48 hours anywhere but ebay, but here's some good places to get 14 days which would probably serve your purpose better anyway. They might have stopped producing 48 hours in the time since I've been away from modding.
