Hi Guys,

If I get this monitor below:

Monitor

Will I still experience screen tearing with VSync off? I know the monitor doesn't have GSync or Freesync however I'm wondering if 144Hz is really worth it if the screen is just going to tear. What's the point in getting 144Hz monitor if VSync is enabled and it caps it to 60Hz?

Hope this makes sense, cheers!

Could have screen tearing, yeah. It's definitely less noticeable at higher refresh rates though, at least for the most part. So, G-Sync/Freesync are arguably less useful at higher refresh rates anyway.

If you do experience tearing because your FPS is too high, then you should be able to limit FPS to 143/144 which would help- or just use Fastsync. So no need for V-Sync.

Fastsync is an NVidia feature which can be enabled in NVidia Control Panel. You would use it when your FPS is above the maximum refresh rate of your monitor. G-Sync works best right below the max refresh rate of your monitor, so like 140-143Hz.

Regardless, you will absolutely notice less screen tearing on a 144Hz panel compared to 60Hz.

Awesome thanks. Makes sense.

Final question, would you recommend this monitor? I want something very similar to the price. Want to move away from 1080p.

Thanks 13

Yeah, that's a really nice price for that monitor tbf. eBuyer had a 1440p 144Hz monitor on sale for £230, but it's a cheap TN panel so I'd get that Samsung monitor over it for sure.
