If you're worried about if it's been wrecked at all, spend the money and take it to a body shop and ask them to look it over. A vin check will just show what was reported to insurance. My old F-150 had damage on it from when my wheel fell off at 45 MPH (over $2k repair bill and a lot of body work) that I never reported to insurance because I could fix it myself so it's not on any report. Anyway, a good body shop will be able to tell you where there's bondo, which panels have been repainted, which panels are OEM, etc.

Whenever I buy a vehicle I have the "mycarfax" app, it's free and it will tell you the reported service history on the vehicle.

Another way for anyone wandering, is go to a dealers website that shows a carfax report on their vehicles, then on the URL delete that vin and input your own. Here's an example:

melraptonhonda.com/templates/auto...ll-history

This is the VIN on the truck I just bought private party, this Honda dealer has never had it on their lot and I have no idea where it's at.
