Currently, my PC has an i5-4690k, GTX 970, and 32GB of DDR3 ram. Would it be worth it for me to upgrade to an i7-8700k and DDR4 ram? I already plan on getting a 1080 and am just wondering if I can keep my current cpu and ram or if that will throttle me. I am aware I will need a new motherboard if I want to upgrade the cpu and ram.

I have the same cpu with a 1070 and there is no throttling. Im sure the cpu would be able to handle a 1080. Maybe not the ti though

Yeah man the 7700k and 8700k are sick man. They still could use delidding though and you can see a little difference with Overclocking.

No, absolutely not. 32GB RAM is a lot. The IPC gain from Haswell to Coffee Lake is pretty minimal as well. The 2 extra cores and HT would be nice but not worth the price of a new mobo and DDR4 RAM. If your CPU is holding you back, your best option for an upgrade is a used 4770/4790(k) or Xeon E3-1230/1231 V3.

As for worrying about a bottleneck, we don't have enough information to answer that. What exactly will the system be used for? What monitor(s) do you use with the system.

I'd also maybe reconsider the upgrade to a GTX 970.

If you tell is all of your sysyem specs, including make and model of case/PSU, as well as monitor
