Wizard101

Platform: Windows, OS X
Genre: MMORPG
Release Date: September 2, 2008
Developer: KingsIsle Entertainment
Publisher: KingsIsle Entertainment

Synopsis

Wizard101 is an MMORPG created by KingsIsle Entertainment. Players take on the role of students of Witchcraft and Wizardry to save the Spiral, the fictional universe in which the game is played, and battle enemies by casting spells using a turn-based combat system similar to collectible card games.

Story
(NOT DLC STORY)

It all started when the head wizard Ambrose found a tree name Bartleby who has been living for 1000s of years protecting the spiral. Afterwards Ambrose creates a city that goes by Wizard City recruiting new wizards in 7 different categories of magic(Ice, Fire, Storm, Myth, Life, Balance, Death). At the start of the game you are introduced to the antagonist who goes by Malistaire, the brother of the myth teacher Cyrus Drake. Many years before you are placed in the game, Malistaires wife, an old death teacher had been poisoned and was killed making Malistaire angry and loses control of his powers. Malistaire leaves his school in Ravenwood and takes on a journey to try to revive a dragon in the world Dragonspyre to try to revive his wife Silvia Drake. You will encounter Malistaire and his minions in many of the worlds through the spiral stealing potions and equipment that will let him bring the dragon back to life. Near the end of the game you will be tasked to go in a dungeon where Silvia Drake is and defeat her soul and put it in a crystal or some say box to try to get her to calm down Malistaire and stop the madness he has created. Although it doesn't work, you will have to defeat Malistaire allowing him to rest with Silvia drake his wife.

Gameplay

For a game I've been playing for about 5 years, Wizard101 kicks many MMO games in the ass. In this game you'll be seeing 100s and 1000s of other real life players throughout the game. You will start at level 1 as of all the other members and make your way to the highest level learning new spells and other magical things in your school. There are a total of 7 schools you are allowed to play as with all of them having different spells and abilities to use. Wizard101 has one of the greatest character customization in games nowadays. You will be able to customization your wizard by hair style and the color of your skin at the star of your character creation. There are around 100000 different pieces of equipment you can change to with some upgrading your stats to others just making your wizard look cool. Some gear in this game can be easy to earn while some may take you days to farm or even weeks on the rarity of it. There are a total of 6 worlds in the default version of this game allowing you to play the story mission or complete hundreds of side quests making stories of their own. There is also a store in this game where you spend real money to get better equipment or potions that will give you better stats for a period of time. There are also mounts in this game that will give you a 40% boost to speed making your gameplay faster and more efficient. The battling in this game is quite easy, you will go up against many enemies throughout your run through where you can team up with other players or solo it yourself. Since its an MMO game you there is also PVP allowing you to get ranked on the leaderboards or just do practice runs with friends.

Graphics

Wizard101s graphics are amazing. The game runs on an extremely smooth engine and has great textures. Since it's a PC game you are allowed to change shadow effects and textures to fit your PC the best. Wizard101 is based on a cartoon type of game so you won't be seeing things that are real and having HD effects anywhere. Kingsisle did a great job with detailing everything in this game to making trees blow in the wind and leaves falling on the ground to seeing amazing effects when casting spells on the battlefield. If you are just running this game for the very first time on your PC, you will have to wait an hour for all the textures to load with the 1000s of things that are in this game. That brings me to the point of just the little details they did to everything you see in this game. It seems like they tried their hardest to make this game look outstanding in graphics wise. After all they did a great job with the graphics in Wizard101.

Controls

Pretty simple, this game is based on your moving keys (A, S, D, W or Arrow Keys) and your mouse. I'm dead serious you probably won't be using any other keys on your keyboard unless you use shortcuts or something. You will be picking spells in battle with your mouse and just walking around with your keyboard. The only thing is you can't change any keys that you might find difficult or weird in the settings although I doubt you would want to change anything. But the controls are insanely easy to use.

Rating

I tried this game out when I got tired of runescape. Even though this was a good review of what I remember, I didn't like it enough to give it a near perfect score.

Used to play this a lot when I was younger. Good game overall, cool combat system, but like all MMO's, you can only do so much as a solo player and it gets really grind-y. Oh, and the chat filter is stupid. XD It blocks perfectly normal words but allows workarounds for other cuss words and such, it's totally useless. But all that aside, it is a fun game.

I like this game quite a bit, played a good few hours on it. The combat system is brilliant and graphics are up to a decent level. 7/10
