Hi,

I feel like crying, I have a decent gaming machine but just don't have the balls to purchase a card in fear that Nvidia will bring a load of new cards out and the price will drop all of a sudden...

I'm looking to purchase:

Palit GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB JetStream Graphics Card

Can anyone advise on cost or if there is going to be any new releases soon?

Thanks

£800 for a 1080Ti isn't that terrible. Pricing in the UK has not been as bad as it is in the US. In fact, it looks like that GPU you have listed isn't inflated because of miners, but because of the increased cost for manufacturers due to the price bump for VRAM.

No one will be able to tell you what is going to happen with prices on current generation GPUs because we really don't know. It is VERY unlikely that you'll see a large fluctuation in pricing any time soon, at least in the UK. The only real possibility of that happening would be if a GTX 1170 launched with 1080Ti performance for £400(ish), then 1080Ti's would all drop to like £400/450 probably. For example, 980Ti's all got pretty cheap(from £600+ to under £400) shortly after the GTX 1070 launched.

As for next gen GPUs, no idea what's happening with it. Lots of different rumours of release dates, and naming schemes, but no one even knows anything about NVidia's next gen architecture, whether it's going to be Volta, or something completely different - usually when GPUs are very close to launching, people know they're coming very soon and have at least some pretty solid information. It is getting to the time that NVidia would want to launch a new series of cards, judging by their past few years. However, they don't have to compete at all right now so they could potentially sit and do nothing, keep letting Pascal sell by the crate load, or potentially even just do a Pascal refresh with slightly higher clocks, or better efficiency.

So, basically, if you don't have a GPU, I'd probably buy at least something now. If you're upgrading and can wait, wait. If you can't really wait, buy now, because there's nothing confirmed coming soon.

Interesting, well let me ask you this. If you had the money had was 'GPUless' meaning you don't have a GPU, would you purchase one for that price?

Thanks matey

If I didn't have a system right now, I'd personally just wait quite a while probably. RAM pricing would be my biggest issue though. Either that, or I'd go pretty barebones in some places, like RAM, and maybe grab an entry level GPU for now but spend money elsewhere and upgrade GPU/RAM later.

If I had a system but my GPU broke or something, then yeah I'd just buy a GPU, probably a 1070Ti though.

If your GPU is doing everything you currently needing it to do I wouldn't upgrade til they drop or new GPUs come out.

If your GPU isn't doing enough for ya, I would just think about what it's worth to you upgrading because you will be paying a mining tax basically.

lmfao no,

We'll do a little break down from these past 2-3 years.

1070 STRIX OC Edition, bought the day the STRIX was announced, $490 USD - which I believe was back in June 2016 (someone correct me if I'm wrong.) Price right now as of searching $774.99 since Amazon is the only one in stock that I found that is brand new.

Added another 1070 STRIX OC edition a few months later for roughly the same price since one card was not enough for 4k like I wanted.

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 AORUS Xtreme, bought around March in 2017 for around $726, searching price now for brand new in stock - Newegg listed as $999.99 after shipping, about $1,004.98 and that's before taxes at the end of the cost.

Last but not least, EVGA FTW3 1080 TI brand new at MSRP from Frys back in August/September of 2017, was about $860-ish USD after taxes, right now the damn card is going for roughly 1k-1.4k USD before any shipping or taxes.

Everything is recent in price hikes. Sure you could argue that RAM prices and even SSDs have gotten more expensive over the years, but nothing on the scale of GPU prices.

The 1080 I bought it from the company Palit, they're not that known in the east (EU) but they dominate the market over in west like in Asia etc.

I've got one new from amazon for £600 which I think is a good steal considering the current price points, it's the super jet stream edition meaning the clock speeds are a tad higher compared to it's other Palit 1080 card.

I'm waiting for the new cards to come out lol because it always happens to me!
