Shoutbox settings:
To access the Shoutbox settings you will see a tab very cleverly marked "Settings" to the right of the message bar where you type your message. Click on that to access settings. There is also a tab appropriately called "Smilies" to the LEFT of that that have exactly that; smilies.

Once you're in settings you can see all these lovely things to make the Shoutbox more to you liking, things like disabling notification sounds, etc.

If you're lucky, the ShoutBox Rep Fairy may even make a visit, and with 25 visits, you'll earn yourself a new badge!
