What do you mean by main competitor?

TCU? Texas Tech? Baylor?

All D1 schools with amazing football programs. Baylor has been sucking the past couple of years but they are about to change some things around with the upcoming class of 2020 and 2019 when those players sign that school is going to be a power house. TCU already is a main competitor. That football program has been amazing for the past for the past couple of years and doesnt show any signs of letting up.
None of those programs are on Texas and TAMs level of recruiting. Not Texas Tech, not TCU, and not Baylor. Good developing =/= good recruits

To be fair if we are looking only at the 2019 recruiting class right at this moment. TCU is ranked #13 and Baylor is ranked #20 while Texas is ranked #41 and A&M is ranked #4. Will that change...sure. But early recruiting it huge.

I would not be surprised if more athletes wanted to play for Gary Patterson at TCU. Every year since they won the BIG 12 they've been in the top 25 for recruiting and the year prior to them winning the BIG 12 they ranked 43.

TCU has a really good recruiting process and they know how to get the players they want. I think in the next few years, TCU will have a tough time in the Big12 with Texas once these freshman get used to college ball.

Right. Though I believe in the past few years a lot of it had to do with Charlie Strong not knowing how to use the players that he had...but then I look at what he did this past year at USF. I dont know what to think anymore.

I really hope that Tom Herman gets his shit together in Austin. Dare I say "Texas is back!?!??!" lol.

I totally agree. Charlie Strong stuggled with this team so glad they got rid of him. Tom Herman had a somewhat good first season and he doesnt show any signs of stopping. I can see Texas becoming a power house in the big 12 in the next couple of years.

Except he already had a class and everyone said he was the savior...

And then last season happened. A little underwhelming but MAYBE finally back on the upswing.

All the luck to you guys I just don't believe Herman is as good of a coach as he is a recruiter.

Honestly, I too would choose TCU over Texas right now. I'd de-commit if I saw Tom Herman actually moving the program in the right direction, but last year didn't look good and he had quite a bit of talent considering.

Their 6-6 season could have easily been 9-3 if it weren't for Sam Ehlinger throwing away the ball for INT's at the end of three games. I would have to say that he is taking the team in the right direction since taking over for Strong. I mean they went to a bowl game for the first time in 3 years. And won that game pretty convincingly..even though it was against Mizzou.

True, though TCU did play Oklahoma twice and won vs Oklahoma State who was ranked #14 at the time and still took down Stanford with Bryce Love. Impressive in my mind, still.

Sam had a good year with bad times during the season. He will come back better next year and UT will have an amazing season I think. We will just have to see, we will get another bowl game for sure next year. I can see our record being better than this year. Had to get used to the new coaching staff of course lol
