I have been thinkning about upgrading my system for a while see below - (RAM isnt the same its 16gb of hyper X of some sort, couldn't find it)

I am finding that my CPU usage is hitting 100% quite abit and the system locks up and just closes everything (not sure if this is related)

was thinking of Ryzen 1700x

got about £500-£600 to play with.

Thanks

What games are you playing whilst the CPU is at 100%. And at what res?

TBH, In my eyes, that's a perfectly fine build. You could pick up a 7700K if you really wanted to. That would be a fairly sensible move IMO since you could sell off your I5 and upgrade for not a lot of cash dollah

well it was happening a fair bit with destiny 2 and just now I had been have trouble for about an hour, I had youtube open and two osbuddy clients open and it just locked up... a hard reset had resolved that issue.

I have thought about the 7700k , should I not be concerned with the whole intel problem?

Download HWInfo64 or something similar and check CPU and motherboard temps in there. Also check temps in BIOS. Even if your 6600k was running at 100% load, you shouldn't be having those issues so a CPU upgrade might not necessarily solve your problems.

That said, a used 6700k or 7700k would be my suggestion for a CPU upgrade. If your motherboard is bad I'm sure you'd be able to get a replacement. If not, and you need to buy a new mobo anyway, then Coffee Lake or Ryzen 2 would be a good shout IMO.

Thanks

something must be wrong with corsair link as HWInfo showed nothing of the sorts but it did show me that malwarebytes is destorying my memory.

How would I be able to tell if I need a new board seeing as it could be that causing my problem.. possibly kinda new to all this pc stuff and this is my first hiccup

If HWInfo and your BIOS are displaying reasonable temps, then it'll be fine. Just a bad reading in the Corsair program. Keep an eye on RAM utilisation, CPU and GPU utilisation/clock speed and temperatures under load and try to recreate the issue.

You shouldn't have to worry about that mobo temp. I know of a few programs that get that temp wrong, I use speccy and currently it's saying my motherboard is at 115 Celsius. Best place to check would be in your bios.

I recommend doing a clean install of Windows 10. This should remove any unnecessary background programs like malwarebytes and whatever else might be running on the system. From there you can see if it is just your workload or something is wrong with your hardware.
