People saying "You can wear any shoes". If you are on the treadmills I'd recommend getting a pair of running shoes just cheap ones. After doing 4 years of cross country, I've found running shoes are the comfiest option and are less likely to cause blisters and stuff

Any shoes wouldn't matter, I would wear my vans to gym class.

Start with low weight. And work your way up.

For example lift 80lbs one day and the next day go up 5-10lbs.

Plus don't over do it. If you over do it your only gonna hurt yourself.

Find what your limit is and keep it at your limit like I said don't over do it

I see there are a billion responses to your question already, but I'll give you my take on it too.
You can pretty much wear any shoes you want to the gym
The only thing that it really makes a difference on is leg day.
For leg day I would recommend shoes with a flat sole, which gives you more driving force and stability. Otherwise running shoes are fine too
