So I came home from work today to find out that my PC refuses to boot. After about 5 hours of debugging, I'm throwing in the towel and upgrading.

Here's the list I'm working with now:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

The list is a mix of components I definitely need to replace, and parts I already have (that hopefully aren't broken).

Parts I definitely need:
CPU
Motherboard
Memory
PSU

Parts I already have:
Storage (maybe broken but I have spares)
Video card (I'm really hoping this isn't broken)
Optical drive
Case
CPU cooler
Monitors

Basically I'd just like a double check on everything. I'm not here for AMD VS Intel or anything like that. I'm pretty set on the parts I've picked already, but if there's anything that should be changed for the sake of compatibility, quality or cost effectiveness I'm all ears.

As a side note, if anyone feels like trying to help me debug my current PC, send me a PM or message me on Discord. I don't have anything else to do tonight...

Thanks

Maybe be a long shot, but have you checked for any wire damage, I had the same issue which kept my system from booting as it kept tripping the power, also have you checked your motherboard for damage to Pins? Do you have another system to check your PSU?

Didn't do much apart from change it from a BX100 to a 500GB EVO.

the 100 range is a bit outdated so to say, and has been surpassed by the BX300. Evo is a safer option IMO and it's a bit cheaper too.

I would say the parts list is pretty good. Nothing that I would say needs changing (I assume the GTX 970 is your currently owned one. If you do need to buy a new one, probably worth going with a 1060 instead)

I assume if you've spent 5 hours debugging then you've probably covered most suggestions I would have.

Just double check with the bare minimum components (i.e. CPU, 1 RAM stick, use on-board graphics if you have them).
I would double check the cmos battery as well.

Is it that it receives no power at all, dies after a short time, or fails to boot to windows?

Will it go to BIOS or try to do POST?

Think he's already got the BX100.

OP - What do you use your system for?
What are your current specs?

Id probably grab a new PSU first, because if your current unit isn't great quality and/or is quite old, it's likely that which has died so you might not need a new CPU, Mobo, and RAM.

Fails to post unless I reset the CMOS first.

Only half of my memory is registering when it does post (down to 8gb from 16gb)

I was occasionally getting VGA_LED, MemOK, and BOOT_DEVICE on solid red.

At this point I'm pretty sure it's my motherboard.

Correct, I already have the BX100.

I've an i7 2600k, Asus P8P67 EVO, 16GB of Corsair Vengeance, Corsair 800W PSU. Everything else is listed in the partpicker link above.

Sounds like your PSU should be fine then. I'd say grab an 8700k, Strix Z370-F(or Z370 Prime) and 2x8GB DDR4. Don't pay more than $150-155 for 16GB RAM though.

Funnily enough I had a very similar issue with my own build sometime ago (Turned out in-fact to be the motherboard). However, I cannot stress enough how important it should be to get an internal speaker for your board. It will go a long way to actually identifying what your issue is, I would even go and get one first before you buy a new build: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
