Hi guys,

I have bought a brand new Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.0L ecoboost which should be getting around 65MPG combined.

The car has only done 230 miles and Im averaging around 38MPG... I drive in ECO mode, dont generally go past 4000RPM each year but yet its still so low!

Is it true I have to wait around 500-1000 miles for the cars engine to settle down orrr?

Can anyone shed some light please!

He did say "new" and it only has 230 miles on it so I'm assuming a 2017/18. Maybe a late 2016 but I doubt it.

What makes you say it should be getting that MPG? This is what I've found.

I think you're confusing MPG with KPG. 40 MPG is equal to 64.374 KPG so you're right where you should be.

The car dealership confirmed this is the MPG I should be getting around. The car is less than a week old, do I need to wait for the engine to settle down for the MPG to increase? Confused haha

Most manufacturers break their engines in before putting them into the cars. But I have heard some people have been told to stay below 4000RPM for about 1000 miles, but just ring up and ask. I doubt you would.

That's also most likely beat case scenario. You'll end up with around 65 MPG if you're constantly driving in highways at a steady speed in a high gear.

We have a Honda Civic here with a top MPG at 42 according to the manufacturer. Ours was almost exclusively used for highway / motorway rides and it's barely at 35 MPG. Driving in cities and lots of stop & go driving will cause it to go down a lot. But even then, if you're at over 50 MPG in my opinion that's a great number.

Based on the fact that everything else is written in kilometers, I'm assuming the MPG is a typo. I highly doubt you will get anywhere close to 65 MPG as they are only rated for 40ish MPG.

Something is not right with your car or the way you drive...
