I was reading on a post on Facebook in which a person asked for what type of oil they should put into their car; people are quick to respond with the classic "A quick search on Google would do." which is a true argument but jeez.

And then there's the "Find out yourself" crowd with their sarcastic comments and useless replies; people take time out of their lives to reply sarcastically to a post of a person just looking for help. It happens everywhere, it isn't just on Facebook or anything.

I can understand that people are irritated by what they call "dumb questions" but isn't it easier just to scroll past the post and move on with their lives? Instead of taking the time to reply with a snarky and arrogant response, just for a few likes.

Short rant but my rant is over.

Because it's the internet...

Facebook should not be a place you go to for help lol. And they are right, Google will provide answers, people just need to learn to look.

Asking for help in a group dedicated to the type of car the guy drives and he can't ask for help on it? Lol, then I guess going to the Technology Forum and asking for PC Building advice is also dumb, hm?

It can be multiple things.

They feed off the attention that will be drawn to them; whether positive or negative.

They want to get a reaction out of OP, which falls in line with the first one.

They're not taking their own advice about searching help for [x] subject and they themselves need help.

I guess some people can want suggestions from other people to know about their experience, but I doubt those people would be like "lol dumb question" or anything like that.

I think it'll fall in line more with simply wanting to rile up as many people as possible. Say something negative to a person asking for help and OP may begin to argue with that person and/or call out that person for why they're acting that way instead of offering help. Then that causes people who would agree with OP to come to their defense, while also having people who agree or want the same reaction as the person who started it, to come to their defense. Then it continues until someone gets bored or everything is deleted and even then, some people will drag it around until they lose interest themselves.

Edit: I think you witnessed this first hand Lily, with that topic about advice on a girl a little back. You made it clear that you weren't going to really reply to people on that subject and that very easily stopped what would have eventually come with troll comments because if you're not going to reply, they can't get a reaction out of you, unless someone was able to make you trigger and snap.

My time listening to Jordan Peterson is bringing a few ideas to mind.

Humour is one of the best ways to get to the top of the dominance heirarchy in nature, which tends to be why women like men who can make them laugh nowadays.
Unfortunately for these people though it also seems to be true that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but still a good indicator of intelligence.

So, they're doomed to be alone, sarcastically pointing out things which frustrate them - which they will be right about - but no one will care because sarcasm is boring.

Hits close to home really.

Those types of people just want to be cool by discouraging others.

People who are unaware of what oil to use for their car, should not own the car. It's told to you as you buy it and it's also in the owners manual which typically stays with the car throughout it's life, I'm not surprised by the sarcastic comments with that question lmao.

It's not dumb, people who do not take responsibility of their own car are dumb.
