Hey all,

I have a budget of £400 and i am wanting to do some upgrades to my PC.

These are the parts inside my PC -

case: Corsair graphite 230t
Motherboard: asus m5a97 r2.0
Graphics card: zotac gtx 1060 6 core with 2 fans
CPU: AMD FX8350 8 core 4HZ
ram: Hyper X Fury 6gb X2 (I have 16GB)

I am planning on building a gaming room so i want my PC to look nice and perform well.

People have been saying that my AMD is not letting the Graphics card perform to its best.

I would be grateful if you could make a list of parts which you would upgrade if you had £400. The one thing i need is a nice looking case which is the colour black and allows lots of air though the PC so that it doesn't get too hot.

Whoever gives the best advice and list i will be happy to gift them something small over steam!

Thanks!

Whoever is telling you that a 8350 is bottlenecking a 1060 is an idiot. It isn't and won't.

It really depends on what you want to get out of that £400. I mean you could make it look better, aesthetically speaking. A new case, nice fans with something like a HUE+ and still have money left over. Or performance wise maybe a new GPU.

But it depends on what you want.

You haven't listed an SSD, so assuming you don't have one, I'd definitely be picking up a 500GB SSD.

I mean, the FX-8350 definitely will bottleneck a GTX 1060 in games, unless they're heavily GPU dependant and don't particularly care about CPU. It really depends on what games he's playing.

OP-
If you're looking for a CPU upgrade, I'd be going for this;
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] / [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

CPU: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£187.14 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£84.68 @ Box Limited)
Memory: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£141.92 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£84.95 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £498.69

You could drop the R5 1600 to an R5 1400 if you really wanted to save some money, and maybe get the SSD later(or ignore it if you already have an SSD). This is what I'd suggest if you're looking to buy right now. However, Coffee Lake CPUs should be releasing next month and if your system is only really being used for gaming, an i5 or even i3 should be a solid option.

As for case, hold on to the 230t for now. Phanteks Enthoo Pro M or Fractal Design Meshify C are the cases I'd be looking at for an upgrade when you have more money.

I mean, it'll still be fine in stuff like The Witcher 3 and other GPU heavy games, for sure. However, it's definitely his limiting factor and will bottleneck in the more CPU heavy stuff. Still, SSD should be first if he doesn't already have one IMO.

Thanks so much for the advice,

One question though.

As i dont really know too much about the CPU, Mine is a 4GHZ with 6 cores, would i be downgrading by buying the 3.2GHZ 6 core?

I do need to buy a SSD my friend said that would be important.

With the ram which you recommended, Would i need to buy this if i already have 16GB of Hyper X ram?

And What tier should my case be if i were to buy one? (Small, Medium, Large)

Sorry for all the questions:)

The FX-8350 is an '8 core', not 6 core. Ryzen is significantly newer than the FX-8350 and has significantly better single core performance. It will be night and day difference between your FX-8350 and an R5 1600, regardless of the lower number of cores and lower clock speed.

Yes, you need to buy new RAM. You can not re-use your current DDR3 RAM.

Confusing question. It doesn't matter, as long as your motherboard and what not fit in the case. Like I said, I'd recommend an Enthoo Pro M or Meshify C.
