Summary

Hurricane Harvey has caused widespread, catastrophic flooding and damage in Texas and along the Gulf Coast. This fund will provide relief to survivors in the form of emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine in addition to longer-term recovery assistance to help residents recover and rebuild. All donations to this fund will exclusively support relief and recovery efforts from this storm.

Challenge

Record-breaking flooding is occurring in Houston and the surrounding areas. Torrential rainfall continues to threaten homes and lives along the Gulf Coast. Several of GlobalGiving's local nonprofit partners are responding to survivors' immediate needs and have asked us to help fund their relief and recovery efforts on the ground.

Solution

All donations to this fund will support recovery and relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey. Initially, the fund will help first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, this fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the Gulf Coast.

Long-Term Impact

We believe that organizations that are deeply-rooted in local communities are in the best position to provide long-term support for survivors of natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future challenges. GlobalGiving will post reports about how funds have been used and will email these reports to donors.

We have added a side block onto the homepage for anyone who wants to donate to Hurricane Harvey Relief.

I'm all for helping. I have family in Texas, not far from Houston and Galveston, but they didn't get it nearly as bad. As much as I'd love to see everybody come together and donate a bunch of money. We all know there would be a lot more raised if there was a badge given out like the "GER2USA" badge. Might as well give these rich nerds a reason to donate money to a good cause, because we know it works.

Just an idea to get everybody motivated to help.

We are not going to give a badge. We do not want people donating for a badge, we want them to donate out of the kindness of their heart.

I already donated days before, knowing how incredibly lucky my family and I were as we live about a half-hour drive away from Houston. Most of my relatives live in Houston whom some I been keeping in contact with for the past week had been staying on their damn roofs waiting for aid to arrive. It's a very unfortunate thing to have happen, not just for my family's sake, but for everyone who lived within Harvey's range. I walk outside and see another typical ordinary day. Knowing that if I travel towards Houston, the sight I see over here is nothing but a fleeing memory of what Harvey victims would've like to see.

Glad this is now official. Hopefully we get a lot of donations coming through now, might not get a lot during the first few days but in a week or so it should start kicking up!

I will be donating £20 in the morning to help against the cause.

Sent £30 about 3 days ago, the storms out there have been immense and no amount of money can fix the personal belongings people have lost.

Glad this topic is here though.

You guys are awesome for putting this up. It has been very tough for our family. My grandmother lost everything. My mothers house was also flooded but we were able to save some stuff. Many memories are gone because of this storm. I myself live in Dallas now but have many family members who have lost so much. Its a very hard rebuilding process. The people have helped so much. Its really nice to see a site ive been a part of for so long do their part. It means a lot. I was blessed enough to be able to provide my house to my family here in Dallas, but the loss of so much hurts. I really want to thank you guys for having that on here.

I will be donating some food and toys to the local bakery that is accepting donations. Right now im just hoping that hurricane Irma doesnt shift towards the gulf coast later in the week and hit Texas. Many people are still displeaced from Harvey and wont be ready for Irma.

I have relatives that were hit very hard from this. We have aided them directly but are planning on doing more for those who are less fortunate! The devastation is something you may only see once or twice in your lifetime.
