No Man's Sky

Platform: PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows
Genre: Action-adventure, survival
Release Date: 9 August 2016
Developer: Hello Games
Publisher: Hello Games

Synopsis

No Man's Sky is an action-adventure survival video game developed and published by the indie studio Hello Games for PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows. The game was released worldwide in August 2016. The gameplay of No Man's Sky is built on four pillars: exploration, survival, combat, and trading. Players are free to perform within the entirety of a procedurally generated deterministic open universe, which includes over 18 quintillion (1.81019) planets, many with their own sets of flora and fauna.

Gameplay

One of the most hated games of 2016, No Man's Sky is probably one of the biggest generating games that we'll see for the next 5 years. Played as an unknown character you are put onto a random generated planet where you have to find your crashed ship and repair it. Afterwards you will collect resources in your starting solar system of planets to upgrade your ship for light traveling engines on your ship so you can travel to near galaxies. Throughout your journey to the center of the galaxy you will encounter many scary, colorful, watery, and planets that are full of alien like animals. Each planet has specific minerals and plants that you will be required to gather upgrading your suit, weapon, and ship. At the start of the game you will be equipped with a lazer weapon that's used for destroying minerals and killing animals. But just be careful when killing animals or farming too many minerals because in No Man's Sky there is a variety of enemies you may encounter through some worlds that come from the army called Sentinels. The Sentinels protect the universe from people such as you harming planets. You will see flying robots or huge walking tanks if you raise your stars by provoking them. Sentinels also like to stay in space in certain solar systems with huge freighters with tons of materials that you can take but when attacking their ships you better be prepared for a big fight. Each galaxy you travel to will have a trading post where you can sell materials you've gathered or trade with other AIs. If you would like you can spot out a nice looking ship and if you have enough money you can be able to buy the ship off them increasing ship inventory and greater traveling distance. On Each planet there is also weather dynamics to where if you land on an ice planet there will be blizzard weathers draining your suits ability faster. There is also hot planets, toxic planets, and radiation planets that can all kill you. But not every planet is dangerous, you may land on planets where you stay there for 3 hours farming and loving the view of everything. There are also planets many people don't know about but some planets have high Sentinel restriction meaning if you farm just the smallest thing you'll have sentinels on your ass. With the new DLC they have added you are now also able to build your own house on a certain planet you picked. You will be required to get the materials to build it but its still a nice addiction to the boring game. On planets, you will find relics that will teach you languages that some all AIs us throughout the galaxy. A funny thing about No Man's Sky is you can actually feed some animals that don't attack and make them poop other materials out. Throughout the universe you will encounter some secret spaceships that are controlled by Atlas that will reveal secrets about the universe. You sometimes will also find special bases where you can ask for a secret way to a black hole that will give you a huge boost to the center of the galaxy or just some rare materials.

Graphics

Many people really didn't take the graphics serious. In my opinion No Man's Sky has one of the best graphics for a generating game. Each planet you visit has a different look with all different textures. Each animal in this game is different by big ways or just maybe half their bodies have changed but each animal shows great detail if looked upon. The weather design in this game is outstanding as well with planets being freezing cold with blizzards where you can barely see to dry planets with wind storms. Some planets may be water worlds where you have the chance to go swimming and see all the sea creatures and plant life. Now the grass in this game is magnificent in this game, if a breeze of wind goes by you'll see every grain of grass just flow with it and also the trees. But there is also space, the graphics in space just put me in tears. Looking at a planet in space is just one of the coolest things you can ever do. Seeing planet and just how much you can explore is outstanding. When flying through a solar system you will crash through asteroids breaking them into pieces while fire and heat flying past your ship for how fast you're going. You will also get to see how majestic light traveling is in this game. Similar to star wars or Star trek and when they light travel. One thing I don't like about No Man's Sky is the minor detail they did to the trading posts in space. You will also come upon many visual glitches where an animal isn't textured right or an AI and may actually become scary. Other than that the graphics in this game are phenomenal.

Controls

All controls are exactly the same to a first person shooter although there is a lot of other controls that you'll need to learn and may get confusing. You'll have scanning and binoculars and flying ships that may get confusing with all the controls. I personally was confused with all the buttons on the keyboard I had to learn but after figuring out its all in the settings I got use to it in about 10 minutes. Everything is changeable and can be adjusted to how you use a keyboard or control.

Decent review dude. Played this on release when it was extremely broken. May give it another shot though.

When this game first dropped everything I seen was so toxic and negative but after reading through your review and seeing all the news on the game improving a ton lately think i'm going to pick it up.

Thanks for the review Tom, you influenced my purchase is the excuse i'll use if I end up getting a steam refund

This game looked (as Spartan said) and i heard it was a massive fail.

Nothing but bad reviews but you have seemed to make it seem not as bad as people made it to be.

Good review.
