I have a amd 8370 and right now i have it at 4.25 GHz using amd overdrive, all I had to do was move up a slider and put it into turbo. I was wondering how to actually overclock so I would be able to push it higher than that but do it safely.

I am on air.

MSI 760GMA-P34(FX) (MS-7641)

What air cooler do you have? Is it the stock AMD cooler, or an aftermarket unit? It's honestly better to OC via the BIOS, setting manual voltages rather than leaving it on auto (like OD does).

Is this your first time OC'ing your CPU? If so, I would highly recommend you do some research, understanding the pros and cons that come with it. A good place to start is with [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] video from JayzTwoCentz. The 8370 you have is basically a more refined version of his 8350, meaning this guide will still be applicable.

However I would still recommend you look around and get a good understanding before you dive in. A lot of damage can caused if done incorrectly, so you need to be extremely careful when tweaking with voltages. You also need to spare a LOT of time you wish to achieve a stable OC, if you don't plan on tinkering for a over a couple of hours, I would personally not do it at all.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Good luck!

Why do you want to overclock in the first place? Are you playing high CPU intensive games? Editing a lot?

AM3 sockets are mint for overclocking, I've got my FX8320 at 4.52Ghz and I literally seen 5-7FPS improvement in CPU intensive games such as Arma and flightsim.

The board your using isn't the best for the chip you have in terms of OC. 990FX would be the better board for your example, however, that's irrelevant.

As said above, it's crucial that you have GOOD CPU, case airflow as without it, you can say bye to your system.
