Platform(s): Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Steam OS, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, iOS, Android, OnLive

Synopsis

Limbo is a black and white puzzle-platforming adventure that puts players in the role of a young boy traveling through a hostile world in an attempt to discover the fate of his sister.

Limbo challenges players with traversing dark forests, trap-filled underground complexes, and stormy rooftops brought to life with hand-drawn visuals. They must be quick, clever, and fearless if they want to survive their journey and unravel the mysteries at Limbo's sinister heart.

Story

The journey beings when a mysterious little boy wakes up in a dark field. After walking for a short distance, the boy realizes he is in the "gates of hell" or, limbo. He last remembers being with his sister so he sets out to find her through this extremely dangerous place. Along the way he encounters humans, both dead and alive, and large creatures that will try to kill him. At first he is lost walking around a forest, and eventually reaches a city-type, abandoned place with huge machinery. Eventually he leaves this place and ends up back on the outskirts of the forest. After stepping out of the forest, he finally find his sister sleeping on the ground.

Gameplay

In LIMBO the player controls a two dimensional little boy that has to find his way through this place to find his sister. Along the way, you will encounter numerous enemies that will try to kill you, traps that can kill you, and little bugs that will fall onto your head and control you. Since there really isn't a set of missions to do, there are about two dozen chapters to complete each with several puzzles in them you need to figure out to proceed. At first these puzzles will require a bit of thinking outside the box and time to figure out but will be relatively easy. As you get deeper into the game, these puzzles may take a lot of time to figure out and become tremendously challenging. Since you are given no weapons, nor are there in the game period, you must use the environment to either escape or kill an enemy.

Graphics

Being a two-dimensional game and black and white the entire time, the graphics are phenomenal. The environment is absolutely gorgeous and very detailed, the lighting and shadowing is perfect, and the blood and gore from bodies is astonishing. The frame rate is excellent as well and leaves for a very smooth running game. This game will be eye candy to most and will look just like a movie.

Controls

Controls are extremely simple as it is a platformer/puzzle game. The only button(s) you'll ever need to touch are A and the left analog stick. The A button will allow the character to jump, duck, pick things up, move things, hang onto things, and the analog will move him forward or backward. Someone who has never played a video game in their life could play this in a heartbeat.

Ratings

Gameplay: 9/10
Graphics: 9.5/10
Controls: 10/10
Overall: 9.8/10[/align]

This is by far my favorite game of all time. I've owned the game for a few years now and I've never beaten it until a few hours ago.

The puzzles are very challenging near the end of the game, as the review says. If you play the entire game through, without using a guide or walkthrough then it will take you hours on end trying to escape LIMBO to find your sister.

I'm fairly certain this game is around $15, it also has Achievements worth a total of 200G.

I am now in the process of trying to get the last achievement I need on the game: complete the game in one sitting with five or less deaths (near impossible).

Was planning on doing my first review on LIMBO, but it was already done, great review and your rating is spot on, amazing game.

Hey i'm actually doing a essay on graphics and i needed someone to give me review on the game so i can use it as a quote could you answer this?

What impact did the graphics of 'Limbo' have on you?

What did it make you feel? Was it a major aspect of the game for you or did it aid the rest of the beautifully creepy gameplay?

It would really help me if you replied

Thanks

This is honestly one of the most atmospheric puzzle games that i have ever played. Along with intricate puzzling (especially for it's time) i can definitely understand why this game is as acclaimed as it is

Nice review man!

I could never really get into limbo though. I tried to play it a few years back and I just didn't find it very thrilling.
