Synopsis

World of Tanks is the first and only team-based massively multiplayer online action game dedicated to armored warfare. Throw yourself into the epic tank battles of World War II with other steel cowboys all over the world. Your arsenal includes more than 150 armored vehicles from America, Germany, and the Soviet Union, carefully detailed with historical accuracy. A flexible system of authentic vehicle upgrade and development allows you to try any of the vehicles and weapons in the game. Whether you prefer to exhaust your foes with fast and maneuverable light tanks, make deep breaches in enemy lines with all-purpose medium tanks, use the force of giant tanks to eliminate opposing armored forces, or become a heavy sniper with long-range howitzers, each unit type has its own advantages and can be extremely effective when operated by a true tank ace.

Gameplay

World of Tanks, being a completely online game, is highly judged on whether you have a good connection with the servers or not. Players experience will vary due to this, for example, majority of the players in North-America would have a lag free enjoyable time, but for others ,such as myself, who live in Australia, we have no servers so the best connection we get would still have a 0.5 second delay in actions. Putting that to the side, this game has a huge range of tanks and artillery with even more upgrades for each and every one of them, going from small fast flank tanks to large destroyers that can hit enemies across the map. World of Tanks delivers a vast variety of tactical maps varying from plain fields with minimal cover to mountainous environments with hard to maneuver corners and death defying falls. Along with great terrain to battle on and many tanks to choose from, the currency system in this game is also flawless, while rewarding players not to much but not to little for every game they take place in whether they stay to spectate there comrades or leave and return to the garage, to use there recently earned points and upgrade their tanks even further. It is clear that the development team over at wargaming have listened to the community and stay up to date with flaws and faults in the game. Overall World of Tanks hits the spot if your looking for a historically accurate, tactical shooter that lets you come back whenever and continue your level and tanks with no fuss.

Graphics

The graphics in this game are more than what was expected, especially for the console version of the game. Parked behind buildings and low brick fences, being fired at, there is not much else you can do but sit in ore as you watch tank bullets tear through the buildings rippling the environment whilst chunks of concrete and shrapnel are propelled in every direction of the now destroyed terrain. Not only does the destructive environment look amazing but it also plays a key part in the game if you have a tactical approach on it. Moving on from the environment and landscapes, the tanks themselves look stunning in action and off duty. With historically accurate tanks being a near mirror image of what they were in World War II you cant help but feel indulged by the gameplay as the dirt flicks up from you tire treads whilst speeding towards the enemy. On top of all that the explosions and ricochet are very detailed and sharp. This is easily visible as you can watch sparks fly off as an enemy shell scrapes your tank, and the smoke residue settling after a high powered shot. To sum it all up, this game has very appealing graphics not only in the terrain but during battle you cant help but notice how gorgeous it is.

Controls

The controls in World of Tanks where hard to get use to at first with the tanks sights and body being a very slowly moving object. This is hard to get use to if you play fast paced games such as call of duty, but over time you will pick up up without much trouble what so ever. The only problem I faced was constantly being jilted due to moving the left analog stick to sharply whilst going at generally high speeds. The only way the developers may have been able to fix this is if they had made the turn and movements a little more fluent, that way no one else would have to run into the same problem as I did. Other than that it is a pretty solid control scheme with the right analog stick controlling the top half of the tank (aiming/direction) and the left analog stick controlling the movement of the tank. I haven't yet faced a problem with the button layout or triggers and personally i think they did a wonderful job on this control scheme as it plays good and you rarely run into troubles that you could blame on the layout.
