Developed and Published by: Coffee Stain Studios
Platforms: PC
Genre: Tower Defense, FPS, Strategy
Players: 1-4
Rating: 8.33/10

Synopsis

Sanctum 2 is the sequel to the worlds first Tower Defense/FPS hybrid game. Pick from four unique character classes and embark on a mission to protect the oxygen-producing Cores from hordes of deadly aliens who are threatened by their existence. Outfit your character exactly the way you want through the new and extensive customization system. Choose your own loadout of towers, weapons and perks, but choose wisely because you are humanitys last defense against the unrelenting hordes set out to destroy it.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Sanctum 2 is unlike any other game you have or will play. Reason being, is the fact that it is a first person shooter and a tower defense game mixed into one. Starting each mission you are given the choice between a few select towers to defend against incoming hordes of monsters. Unlike classic tower defense games, while the monsters are incoming you are running around and fighting the monsters yourself. There are four characters to choose from, Skye Autumn, who's the assault rifle wielding, double jumping hard-core mofo. Then there is Sweet Autumn, whose weapon is the sets targets on fire. SiMo UNIT is the sniper character, and Haigen Hawkins carries a shotgun. All of these characters have special abilities, and are good for different missions. There are also several different perks, towers, and guns to choose from. This game requires some of the most extreme strategists!

Gameplay Features

  • Tower Defense - Design complex mazes and build powerful towers to stop the enemies from destroying the Cores.
  • First-Person Shooter Dont just sit back and watch, jump into the action yourself!
  • Four playable character classes Each with their own unique strengths, weaknesses and weapons.
  • Vast Customization System Pick perks or make the game crazy hard by adding Feats of Strength.
  • In-game Visual Novel Unlock a comic-book page for every map you beat to discover the secrets of LOEK III.
  • Progression System Increase your rank and unlock new weapons, towers and perks.
  • 4-Player Co-op Progress through the storyline yourself or team up with other players whenever you want.

Graphics

Sanctum 2 features some of my favorite graphics. It has a colorful look to it, but the games setting is more often than not afternoon(ish), there are a lot of shadows, and a dark tone. It sports some very high resolution graphics, the character models are high detail and they have a very dirty look. Most of the monsters in the game follow the same template, so it does get boring looking at the same thing running at you wave after wave. The animations are smooth, they are unique to the game, for instance the Walkers have an American Football running back type of run, like they're ready to smash into people. Whereas the mini walkers are kind of like an angry penguin. But my favorite part is the fact that this game doesn't require a medium/high end graphics card to show it's true potential. You can run this game with an old card and still max out the game's graphics.

Controls

Controls are similar to many other first person shooters, left click shoot, wasd movement, but what is different is the Ctrl for zoom and the right click is a secondary shot which uses all of your ammo in your clip. It takes awhile to get used to, but you could always just change the control layout to fit your needs most of the games tower defense functions are all controlled by the mouse which makes for painless and quick edits to your defense layout. Unfortunately you have to pick up one of your hands from their comfortable positions on the movement keys and the mouse to start the next round because it is the enter button, unless of course you take the few seconds to change the settings. Whatever floats your boat
