Synposis: (Wikipedia)

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is a first-person shooter video game developed by Terminal Reality and published by Activision.[3] It is based on The Walking Dead television series, in contrast to the video game by Telltale Games, which is based on the comics.[4] The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct acts as a prequel to the TV Series; it is set in the Georgia countryside and focuses on Daryl and Merle Dixon as they make their way to Atlanta during the early days of the zombie apocalypse. The game was released on March 19, 2013 on the PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Windows

In my own words: The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, is a first person shooter, following the story of The Walking Dead Television series, about the days before the Dixon brothers meet with the characters of the television series.

Gameplay:

The gameplay follows the story of Daryl Dixon, following the days of his life before he joins the group you watch on the show, you play him as first person, as he fights zombies, scavenges for supplies to survive, and as he interacts with others.

In certain parts this is a free roam style game, you can explore and roam around to find supplies, weapons, food, medication, and everything under the sun, anything to help you survive the apocalypse.

The game is all set on decision making, you will decide if you want to help other people for the better, or for the worst. During the game you will be put into certain situations that may or may not effect your later game. You can help other survivors for rewards, or leave them to fend for theirselves, for the most part, I recommend helping others. You also add others to your crew to help you out along the way, you can give them weapons, and give them certain tasks that they may or may not complete on their own. Another thing I would like to add, this game was fairly short, which was a disappointment to me, I feel the gameplay should of been longer than it was, and maybe the story should of been longer.

Graphics:

The graphics for this game definitely lack standards, you will notice the lack of detail and the lack of smoothness. For me this was sort of a disapointment, I feel they could of improved from the last game, and made everything look more realistic and all around better. I have also noticed that there are some graphical issues, sometimes the arrows get stuck in the zombies and at another point the game lagged because of a graphical issue with stands, which was annoying. For the most part the graphics aren't great, but I feel the game is too good to dwell on it.

Controls:

The controls to this game are much like your average first person shooter game, much like Call of Duty. If you have experience with other first person shooters you will pick up on these controls very fast. I haven't noticed any issues with the controls, and they run very smoothly. Everything is basically what you are already used to, running, aiming, picking up, are all the basic controls. For the most part the controls are very average, you will be able to pick on these very fast even if you are new to gaming.

Ratings:

Gameplay: The gameplay is great in my opinion, and I think it goes with the story perfectly, I loved the idea of being a survivor/scavenger during the apocaplypse, especially playing as the the legendary Daryl Dixon. Since I enjoyed the game so much I have to give it a 8/10, although the game was fairly short, and the reason I don't rate it higher is strickly because of the graphics/bugs.

Graphics: As I have stated before, the graphics aren't good considering. I believe they could of been much better. I have to rate the graphics for this game a measly 6/10.

Controls: The controls are great, very simple and easy to pick up on. Very much your average controls, I have no complaints here. 10/10

Synopsis

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is a first-person shooter video game developed by Terminal Reality (in conjunction with Terrence King studios) and published by Activision. It is based on The Walking Dead television series, in contrast to the video game by Telltale Games, which is based on the comics. The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct acts as a prequel to the TV Series; it is set in the Georgia countryside and focuses on Daryl and Merle Dixon as they make their way to Atlanta during the early days of the zombie apocalypse. The game was released on March 19, 2013 on the PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Windows.

Setting

The game's setting takes place is the countryside of Georgia right at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. The events taken place are a prequel to the beginning of the award winning TV Series. I must the say the setting is kinda bland, i mean you get to see where Daryl and Merle track through before the actual series but there are many things they could have done to make the game better. For example the game is all on foot, it would have been interesting to have to drive from place to place instead of just spawning there. But all aside i would say atmosphere was very creepy and spine-chilling it did a good job of making you feel you were part of the apocalypse.

Setting Rating:7/10

Gameplay

The gameplay i must say was very hit and miss, on the run up to the games release i was very exited with what the developers had planned but when put into action there were many faults. Firstly, i loved being able to play Daryl Dixon and most importantly his voice over work was amazing as for Merle(Norman Reedus fanboy). But the game was so rushed and pretty much tacky that i couldn't really enjoy all it had to offer. The game is all about being sneaky and making to make your way around 'Walkers' instead of taking them all on with the exception of using weapons although they create a lot of noise. But this was where the developed came in and made it tacky, by giving the AI absolute stupidity(I know they're zombies but you can literally jump on a car wait for them all to surround you and just pick them all off with no effort). But there were some good aspects to the game such as the basic survival with the use of Fuel/Food/Survivors/Ammo all of these are important to your experience as you need fuel for cars, food to eat and ammo for weapons. This is where the survivors come in and go on separate side missions to gather supplies for you although most of the time they come back with basically nothing and are almost dead. Finally the gamespan. The game is so short you can do everything possible while looking around at the scenery and you would get around 8-10 hours of gameplay, it's ridiculous. I feel the game could have done so much better given the time but unfortunately they rushed it so we'll all have to wait for the TellTale sequel.

Gameplay Rating:6/10

Graphics

The graphics are..well, dated. The textures look pretty horrible and most of the level maps basically repeat themselves, not to mention the zombies basically repeat themselves after a good 10 zombies because the developers were too lazy to create new models. Also the zombies look terrible themselves with some terrible texture packs making there hair look like clay. But the streets do look pretty dead and the way the buildings look inside and out really capture the soul of the TV series so i must praise them for that.

Graphics Rating:5/10

Controls

The controls are fairly basic, they pretty much resemble any COD game with the exception of the 'Peep round the corner' which i like in most games. Although some of the controls mess up occasionally they are average just like the game.

Controls Rating:6/10

Overall

Overall i would say that they rushed this game when it could have been so much more, hopefully this is a lesson to any company wishing to make a walking dead game. It can be a good game if you are a huge walking dead fan wanting to know the back story to Daryl and Merle, overall i would say it is Above-average.

Overall Rating:6.5/10

Yeah I wasn't expecting much with this game. I didn't even bother buying it and I'm a huge Walking Dead fan. It just seems like they should have done something different instead of following the the TV series like the arcade version. This is pretty much like those games based of movies that are absolutely terrible and are not worth thirty dollars.

After reading this review, I will probably not purchase this game. Not only because of your review, but because of rumors I have heard. It's rather disappointing compared to the series.

Don't get me wrong, your review is great, it was a nice read also.

I completely agree with this review, the game is over-hyped and the gameplay isn't good.

Great topic, and I totally agree with you..
They should've used much more time on the making, but instead as you said, they rushed it.
I've got bored of the game after 2-3 hours, or less.. waste of money in my opinion.
I'll give it a 4-5 ;)
