Synopsis
Staying alive even when the Nintendo DS is off, Fish Tycoon is a fish-breeding simulation that lets players raise fish in real-time virtual aquariums and crossbreed them to their liking to create new breeds to sell in their store. Selling fish provides funding for supplies, medicine, special chemicals, technology research and store advertising to attract more customers. Players start with a small selection of fish that they must nurture and breed as they work to discover the correct genetic combination for the 7 Magic Fish.

Gameplay
Fish Tycoon is a simulator for selling a variety of different fish for money. Players will have to breed different varieties of fish to find the 7 magical fish. When a player discovers one of the 7 magical fish, the fish will have a magical power that will have an affect on fish that is bred with it, including the baby fish. Players will be able to purchase items for their tanks for decorations. Purchase plants that will have a desired affect on any fish in the tanks the plants are in. Players will also be able to set up the amount the fish will cost. They will also have to to make sure their fish are feed and cured of any illnesses that would spread to other fish within the same tank. The fish will grow upon every hour that is passed. If all the player's fish die out, they are able to purchase fish eggs from the store as well as 2 other types of fish eggs to purchase from. Players can also purchase fish research to be able to contain fish that are rare and need proper research before raising them. Fish Tycoon isn't really a game for players that seek any sort of action since Fish Tycoon is a slow paced game with relaxing and slow music.

Graphics
For a simulation for PC, the graphics were great for its time. The details on each kind of fish are quite similar, just with different sizes and colored fins. The effects on the tanks such as the aeration system and temperature regulator will emit bubbles coming from the nozzles which creates that realism effect of the tank. When the player is selling their fish, the people lack details and textures especially on the faces. The customers however do show emotions when the price is too high or just right and is easy to view. The textures on the surfaces of the store itself could have been better since the walls are all the same color and have little amounts of details put into them.

Controls
The controls in Fish Tycoon are very simple and easy to understand, even for young ages. The game features a drag and drop function for anything the player uses from their inventory. The player really has nothing else to use for controls like movement, pick up items, and other various functions but just the mouse and by left-clicking on what the player needs. But if the player is playing Fish Tycoon on the Nintendo DS, then the controls are going to be completely different from what the PC version has the controls set-upped as.
